“temperate vegetation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2014

This splendid garden houses temperate plant species who would suffer from the heat at Kandy,s botanical garden.
Here the temperatures are more temperate and similar to Madeira,New Zealand or Capetown.
Think species like: tree-fern,clivia,s,rhododendron.
The gardens offer views over highest peaks of Sri Lanka and the cloud forest growing on them.
A very wet climate creates lush growth.

“It worths of a visit only in a right time of a year”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2014

I've been to this place two times. The first time was in late March and the garden was extremely pretty. Full of blossom, especially various kinds of roses. Very romatic place to visit. However my recent visit was in December and it was totally waste of money. No flower blossom what so ever and many areas were closed. Avoid this place in December.

“Nice garden, bad shape.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2014

Maybe this was not the right moment to see a lot of flowers, but more than 1/3 of this place was werking arena or needed to be so. One hour visit is enough.

“Cool and Relaxed”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2014

This was my second visit to Haggala Garden,

The garden is very pleasant with much greeneries and flowers, clean and relaxing, well maintained. You will need to allocate about 2 hours, there is a small cafe which is to be improved. It is located conveniently within 15 minutes drive from city center. If you drive, there are limited parking. You can't miss garden if you visit Nuwara Eliye.

Almost everywhere in Sri Lanka the entrance fee is huge difference for locals and foreigners,

“Beautiful gardens”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2013

We visited on a Sunday and there were lots of visitors, there was a short queue to pay and enter, but it did not feel busy once we were inside. Locals 50 rupees, foreigners 1100 rupees! This left us feeling totally ripped off and gave a rather sour taste to an otherwise lovely experience. We walked to the very top of the gardens and enjoyed watching families of monkeys in the trees. The gardens were well kept, massive ferns, poinsettas taller than an adult. Allow about 2 hours for a visit to these gardens to properly enjoy them.
