“Never again!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2013

The hotel may know their standard s but they give step motherly treatment to local customers. Even after telling them that we need a la carte for dinner, they served us rice and curry fit for lunch which they had decided on their own. Terrible. We starved the night. As for the foreigners who were there that night they had a candle light dinner. We will never visit this place again.

Great location- high up on the hillside that you'll soon come to see makes up most of nuwaraelya. We arrived at night and couldn't appreciate it but certainly the following morning the view from our widow onto the tea plantation was impressive.

Service was great, the staff were attentive to our needs and small touches made a difference- bringing us hot water bottles without being asked for example.
We didn't get much of an opportunity to sample their food unfortunately as we were only there for a night but I had no complaints. One suggestion might be to offer genuine Sri Lankan food for breakfast in addition to their 'Western Breakfast' as I felt the breakfast wasn't quite up to scratch but that was most likely due to the fact that bacon/sausage are almost unheard of in SL and it must have been imported at significant cost but the quality and style was questionable (ie frankfurters NOT sausages).

I found the rooms clean and tidy, our room certainly wasnt damp although I can imagine that it would be difficult to avoid given the local climate. One suggestion however- the rooms get very cold and as pretty as the fireplaces look, our one in particularly provides very little heat, that might be something they look into.

Overall a lovely stay and all the minor negatives were outweighed by the friendly staff and their diligent sevice.

We spent 2 nights in this nice hotel in july 2013 with our 3 children and really enjoyed our stay. The rooms were comfortable and well equipped. The staff was friendly and really taking care of us. The food (breakfast and dinner) was of good quality and well cooked.

Room Tip: We booked Deluxe rooms in the new side of the hotel.

My partner and I stayed at Midky hotel for 2 nights. On arrival we were greeted and welcomed by the staff who were all very helpful and shown to our rooms. It's unfortunate that N'Eylia is such a wet place as it clearly had an effect on the hotel and I'm sorry to say the room was pretty damp, the bed clothes and pillows were wet and so were the walls, this in effects did make the room and corridors smell quite strongly. The owner did mention in a passing comment that he recognised there was damp due to the climate and passed on his apologies. The room was lovely and clean and did have a fire provided and the thoughtful staff brought us hot water bottles both nights, it did have a strange clear glass wall that separated the bedroom from the toilet...meaning you get to watch your partner use the toilet which was very disturbing and uncomfortable! But in contrast to this...the food was INCREDIBLE and easily some of the best I had in Sri Lanka, again though the resturant was freezing and eerily quite. The staff there were all great but I think if they had some female staff there some of the small qualms would be ironed out...seeing a group of men all hidden under hoodies can be slightly intimidating!

Midky provided us with two big rooms which were very comfortable and warm - which is just as well as we arrived in a rainstorm! The staff were courteous and helpful and there was free wifi throughout the hotel and the kids were given a hot water bottle each. The food was also good, although there is no bar area as such, and after finishing dinner it would have been nice to retire for a post-dinner drink as the hotel itself is a few km out of town. All in all, the hotel was excellent value and the rooms were finished to a good standard.

We arrived at Midky hotel to a warm welcome from all the staff and we were given hot towels and hot chocolate. We had a wonderful stay in one of the rooms at the front of the hotel with spectacular views of the hills. The staff were very helpful during our 3 night stay- they even gave us a waterbottle to take to bed each night as it does get chilly in the evenings. We had the dinner on one of the nights and it was very good. The breakfast was excellent - lots of fresh fruit and yummy pancakes. This is a fantastic hotel on the outskirts of nuwara Eliya - we loved the location as it is much nicer here than in the main town. Very good value for money.
Thank you to all the staff at Midky for a lovely stay!
