“The VIEW!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2013

Please be aware that Amaya Langdale is a 45 - 50 minute drive from the center of Nuwara Eliya. This is party due to road reconstruction, party due to bad and winding road.

But if you have the time, don't mind the driving, Amaya Langdale offers you a beautiful setting within the tea fields, a wonderful view from the terrace and the infinity swimming pool (which wasn't heated and we were there, so very cold water).

The place itself is beautiful, like a renovated manor. It's not one of this run down old manors, it's a nicely, stylish renovated one - with modern amenities. The room itself offers a nice electrical ofen, which imitates wood fire - quite romantic.

The food isn't the cheapest - but it's of very good quality and taste, the best we had on the trip through Sri Lanka.

We were very unlucky that we had two Indian families staying with us. They were very loud, shouting, children screening etc. Due to the very thin walls (wood?) we weren't able to get a rest.

Our room 103 only had a bath tub, no shower. Unfortunately the tube of the shower head was so short that you couldn't take a shower standing. Instead you had to knee on the bath tub - which after a while really did hurt.

We had an excellent breakfast on the terrace before leaving.

I would stay at Amaya Langdale again - but for sure not in room 103.

Room Tip: Don't take room 103!!!

a very peaceful and scenic green location. Pristeen room, though perhaps a little bland. I liked the fact that they had vases of fresh roses in the lounge area. bed was huge and comfortable though the room doors were quite flimsey so noise travelled. the food was fantastic. very tasty. Nice comp afternoon tea too.

Spa was basic but nice and not bad value.

however the road from Nuwara Eliya is currently under construction therefore if you are travelling to this hotel you are best in a 4 wheel drive not a standard saloon. the road won't be finished for years. we also travelled out on a the road in the other direction and the work was ongoing for even more of the road. we kept being held up by traffic jams caused by diggers and large road building equipment. at one point my husband even got out and directed traffic!!!

If you are on a tour and staying here make sure your agent arranges appropriate transport.

also this hotel is in the middle of nowhere so you need to ensure you have booked trips to other nearby locations, eg Horton Plains etc. as there is nothing to do at the hotel except play pool, and eat. or swim if the weather is ok. NB we had torrential rain for a whole day.

Room Tip: only a few rooms we stayed in the part of the building through the other side of the restaurant. the...

We stayed here from 02nd March to 05th March 2013 and enjoyed each moment. We had a great time. My wife and my daughter enjoyed alot and feeled ecstatic about this property. Rejuvenated with the class service of Spa. Will return back soon along with my friends as well. Keep up good work.

Room Tip: Room facilities are very good.

If you can tolerate the bumpy ride from the nearest town this small hotel in the middle of the tea plantations is wonderful. The ambiance, service, food and location are about the best you could wish for. Tranquility is the order of the day. We just loved it.Some nice walks also possible into the surrounding hills.

I was first skeptical but when I arrived at Langdale I couldn't believe my eyes ..so breathtaking and surrounded by mountains ....and of course tea bushes . I must say it is one of the best holidays .the small cosy hotel with14 rooms was out of this world ,couldn't believe I was in Sri Lanka .the service was so good ,they were so attentive and the Manager was ever so willing to accomadate our whims and fancies ( ESP with the rugby channel ) food was just perfect ..pool was nice ...,kids enjoyed playing mini golf, bike riding .....the rooms were spacious .it was like home away from home . Thanks and I will recommend to all my friends and family .....excellent service with a smile ...

Room Tip: Room overlooking the pool .......

Although I have been to Sri Lanka many times on business, this was the first time I had the opportunity to explore the 'up country' around Nuwara Eliya. I am so glad that I did. It is just beautiful.

This was also my wife's first time to the island so I wanted to treat her with some nice places to stay. To that end I could not have done any better than The Langdale.

The location is just out of this world. Tranquil over looking the beautiful tea clad mountains. You will see reference in other reviews to the road to the hotel - it is the main road from Nuwara Eliya to Hatton but it is in very poor repair. Work is on-going - I was advised that the work will not be done this year as previously mentioned on this site but will be more like 2015. This I suggest is realistic. The 7km from the town will take you 40 mins, but it so very worthwhile - don't be put off.

It is a small hotel and you would expect good service and indeed that is just what we got. A very friendly welcome. On arrival we were invited to afternoon tea on the terrace at 4:30pm - all very civilised. I read from another reviewer of his poor meal service etc. being the only guest. There was only one other couple staying when we were there but the service was great. We were offered the full menu at dinner and could not fault anything.

The restaurant is very nicely appointed and the food is just wonderful. All very well presented with great flavours. A reasonable wine list was also available at sensible prices. The bar is quite small but perfectly adequate for a pre-diner drink.

Take a walk around the tea 'fields' behind the hotel to experience a really quiet and rewarding experience. We met a number of lady tea pluckers who were very keen to show us how they did their job and welcomed the opportunity (for a few rupees) to have their photograph taken.

All in all a fabulous place to stay if you are in this part of the world.

Note - as has been said in a number of reviews of this hotel, try and get one of the upstairs front facing rooms - it is worth it.

Room Tip: Get an upstairs front facing room is you can.

Stayed for one night in a suite which had views over the tea plantations - amazing. Small hotel but close to Somerset Tea plantation. Service was slow but good. Great place to get away from it all. Would have liked to stay longer.

Room Tip: Choose a suite with balcony and views to tea plantations.
