“A LONG way out of town”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2012

Beautiful location, but a good 30 mins out of town, down poor quality road (at the moment). Rooms spacious and well furnished, with plentiful outdoor and indoor spaces to lounge. SLightly shabby fittings, but smiling staff always happy to help. Afternoon tea is a nice touch, and meals got vastly better after we'd expressed unhappiness following a very poor first dinner. No driver quarters available - so a bit of a bother if you are in a chauffeured vehicle. Free internet a nice bonus.

Hotel Langdale definitely made our stay In Radella all the more memorable. With a perfect touch of colonial extravagance , we were left truly satisfied! Excellent staff, young , polite and efficient, prompt service; just what you and your family need to be assured of while on vacation. Panaromic views of the tea estates, from your very window!
As we were moving to the hotel in the night, we had trouble locating the hotel , due to the minimum lighting and rocky roads up the hill. But the staff of the hotel communicated well with our driver and helped us get there faster. As we were really exhausted from the bumpy ride on winding roads, the staff took great care to attend to us immediately and helped us check in smoothly, and made sure our move in was hassle-free! Also since it took us a lot of time to get to our hotel, we missed out on dinner, but the staff were gracious enough to provide us dinner although the kitchen was closed by then. The service at breakfast was indeed remarkable- truly mouthwatering varieties!
Even when we had doubts regarding location of tourist spots or a Church mass service, the desk boys were most happy to help.
Set atop a beautiful hill, a stroll around the hotel is most definitely recommended!

We stayed here for 2 days in June 2012, weather was awesome and the hotel itself is located at a good altitude giving some beautiful views...rooms were basic...not too many activities in the hotel..( they just have a mini version of the pool table) ,a swimming pool and a spa...We have stayed in 4 star properties in several places, but we felt that in this place the rooms were over priced for what was offered...food was average, spread was limited...but overall this place is a lot less crowded that kandy since its a bit away from the city , so it did offer us good privacy...

Room Tip: ask for a room facing the hills..we tried asking for an upgrade but they asked us to pay a huge amou...

We got a good welcome on arrival. Warm and friends staff. Rooms are beautiful and few have good views. I thought the furniture was a little too bib for a small hotel...

Pool could be heated - give the staff 3 hours warning if you wanna warm swim!

Spent two nights at the Langdale by Amaya in early July. As the A7 was under construction needed to come across the A1 from Colombo via Kandy. While the road was in good shape and scenic it was a fairly long drive for a short visit. The resort was planted on a hill surrounded by hills of tea plantations, about 10 kms from Nuwara Eliya (25 minutes). The hotel is new but the grounds are well developed with beautiful flower gardens. The hotel is quite small and even though it was pretty much full, it never seemed crowded. In some ways the hotel is going through growing pains and I think that the hotel could do a better job of promoting the options in the area. We were in a standard room which was comfortable, but a bit smaller than what was anticipated after viewing their website.

For us the biggest disappointment was the food. While it had great promise, the food was a mixed bag, but generally not up to what you would expect from a five star resort. Their fresh salad was terrific and their breakfast taken on the terrace overlooking the beautiful valleys was like being in a movie. Unfortunately, that was the end of the positives, on our first night, my main course, which was seafood tempura and rice came out cold, which upon mentioning to the staff resulted in them taking it away. Upon it's return a few minutes later, it was clear that they had simply threw the items back in the deep fryer, which made them basically inedible. My wife's meal, the cottage pie was very greasy and heavy on the salt. The second night was not much better and my wife's comment that the pasta she got at the Coffee Bean at Colombo airport on her way out was better than what she had. The area was full of fresh local produce and it did not seem to be taken advantage of in their recipes.
All in all, apart from the food, everything was quite good and it was a nice relaxing place to spend some time, but be prepared that apart from having a pool, lovely gardens and a small sitting area, there was not much to do in the immediate vicinity of the resort.

A wonderful experience. Small boutique hotel right in the midst of tea plantations with sweeping views of the hills and tea plantations ofcourse. Very serene and scenic setting. Beautiful gardens with lots of flowers (lots of roses). Very friendly hotel staff. Complimentary tea/snacks in the evening. Nice pool. Decent breakfast from fixed menu; did not try lunch/dinner at the hotel. Good sized comfortable rooms. Should add a hair dryer to the amenities provided. Thought of trying the SPA but it did not look inviting enough. Recommended for sit back relaxation/romantic getaway but max 2-3 nights.

Not necessarily dislikes, but points that would help other people decide: Quite pricey. Secluded spot, around half an hours drive (8km) away from town centre. No accommodation for driver (driver had to find own accommodation at additional cost and time, 8km each way). Not much to do other than hike around the nearby tea plantations. Not recommended for families/kids.

The place was very cosy and nice. The choices in food is really not enough. The pool temprature control does not work and the staff do not promote it. The rooms were very nice and has a lovely view. The place had an offer for the locals and as such it was busy during the weekend. Not the best place to have a private holiday.A 30 min drive to Nuwara Eliya and the road is not that good. Most of all i think it was not worth the price since there are better boutique hotels for better prices.
