“rainy June visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2013

Having not researched about the Historic Site, I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the site. Lovely to see various homes and buildings, including Bert's birthplace, Quaker meeting house, blacksmith, etc. Audio wands were complimentary & provided useful information. A child in our group earned a Jr. Ranger badge by completing activities & was kept engaged throughout the visit. Staff was exceptionally friendly!
Unfortunately, the weather was less than ideal with heavy rain & a tornado warning for a nearby county.

Excellent presidential library. Great story about an obscure president. Spend a couple hours or more if you are a reader. Great photos.

“See the birthplace of the 31st president”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2013

We visited this site on June 11th. There is free parking next to the visitor center. In the visitor center you can watch a video of the childhood of Hoover. Next to the visitor center they rebuild a part of the city. You can visit the birthplace cottage, the blacksmith Shop of his father, the schoolhouse and the Friends Meetinghouse. I do not know if the rangers give guided tours. They did not suggest it.

“Iowa's Only President”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2013

If your travels take you past exit 254 on Interstate 80 then you have no excuse for missing this wonderful attraction. The NHS and the Library/Museum are two separate attractions. The NHS has no fee and you may visit the many buildings and the graves of President Hoover and his wife Lou. It's just off the highway and well worth the time. Be sure to have the youngsters do the Jr. Ranger activity booklet.

Good place to learn some history you might not know. Hoover and his wife were very interesting people.
