“Puri paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2013

Having been to Bali several times before, I have stayed in quite a few Balinese hotels and Puri Sebatu definitely rates as one of the best.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 9 nights towards the end of August 2013 and we had an absolutely wonderful stay. The rooms are just beautiful (ask for room 1,2,3 or 4 as they are higher up the hill and have better views).

The food was really nice - a little pricey by comparison - we only ate here one night. The breakfasts are fantastic and they offer a great range of choice, from traditional Balinese delicacies to American pastry feasts!

Although it is a bit of a trek into the town (30-45 minutes by car) it's really not that bad as the hotel offers a regular shuttle car - the hotel's remote location makes for a perfect getaway holiday.

The rooms are very comfortable and the bathrooms are just what you would expect in Bali - huge glass windows, open air showers and enormous bath tubs.

The staff can't do enough to help and once you discover that before the hotel opened they all personally helped to create the gardens and make the place as wonderful as it is today, you can't help but feel as if you've been welcomed into the arms of a new family! When we got home there was a really kind email asking if we got home safely - they really do pull out all the stops.

Really worth a visit if you are in the area and want a more secluded, quiet and tranquil holiday experience.

Not recommended for families but single travellers or couples.

We stayed at Puri Sebatu for 4 nights and it was an amazing piece of small paradise.

We arrived on a rainy evening, and being high up on the hills, the weather was a little chilly for me and the staff immediately offered me a warm towel to keep me warm while waiting for check in. It was a great start to our stay here in the resort. The staff are friendly, remember you by the name and offered their best service to you. They are flexible in accommodating to your request too. It's a five star service!

The location is great if you are looking to get away from all the hustle and bustle of a city life. The nights are peaceful, and the day are filled with sounds of nature. Of course, with the nature surrounding you, expect insects and mosquitoes. But do not let it put you off. The weather is refreshingly cool here. We did not switch on the air condition for all nights of stay here.

The food here is great too! The morning breakfast is truly worth looking forward to every morning. Without the usual buffet in hotel, deciding what to eat is way so easy and far more delicious than many of the big hotels. We had dinner thrice in the hotel. Equally delicious and reasonably priced.

We did our massages in the spa, as well as a full day tour and trekking with water purifying ceremony with the hotel. They were all great and informative. As our full day tour was on a rainy day and we missed out on the view of Kintamani, the driver took us there the next day on our hired drive too. Coffee plantation trip that was a recommended stop by the driver is good, especially on a cold rainy day.

In all, the resort exceed our expectation and is worth every recommendation despite the distance from Ubud. Keep up the good service!

No long-winding review. Just wanna confirm all good reviews about Puri Sebatu posted by other travellers.
I had the best sleep quality at this resort. Food is beautifully prepared at the most adequate portion size - not exaggerated like the Aussie, Kiwi & American. The egg benedict is delicious!
Staffs are extremely observant and quick to notice and adjust to the habits of guests (e.g. appetite & preference).
Thank you. Keep up the good job. Wishing Puri Sebatu all the best.

We stayed at Puri Sebatu for 2 nights only and we are already in love with it.
The location is a bit far from Ubud centre (45mins - 1hr drive) but Puri Sebatu is absolutely beautiful and it's very worth it. Feel very peace and relax in there. And they also provide shuttle bus to Ubud.
The staffs are super nice, friendly and helpful. I join the Argo plantation and they said that the fruit is not in season so they upgrade us to take us to see the beautiful rice paddies & coffee plantation without charge us. So kind of them.
Since we booked a spa in Ubud centre but not actually know how to go. Normal shuttle bus drop off in Ubud palace but they took us just in front of the spa. So we didn't need to spend time to walk and find the place. Thank you so much!
And we join their Yoga class, it's cool.
And breakfast is great! Very delicious, and it's our first time to have Balinese breakfast, so yummy!!
The room is spacious and we can see the sunrise from our bed and the big terrace.
Just love there and would really want to stay there again when we visit Bali again.

We stayed at Puri Sebatu for 5 nights and had a truly magical stay! The staff are fantastic and so friendly. We were absolutely doted on (but not in an annoying way). We had paid for one of the packages which included dining under the stars - I won't ruin it by over describing it but the food was amazing as was the experience! We also had massages on our balcony which were soooo relaxing and lovely. Last thing I will mention (I could go on for ages) is the water purifying ceremony. It was a very peaceful and spiritual experience.

Thank you to all the staff at the resort!

Room Tip: We were in valley 3 which was perfect!

Congratulations to the management of Puri Sebatu for having a team of passionate staff that strives to exceed guests' satisfaction!

This is our 8th trip to Bali and Puri Sebatu clearly stands out from the other villas and hotels we have ever stayed. You can feel the instant warmth hospitality given by every friendly staff. They remember your names, chat with you, remember your programs, know when you are checking out, and even remember what's your favourite breakfast! In summary, this splendid team is genuinely keen to make sure your stay is comfortable, happy and memorable.

Since Puri Sebatu is located almost 700 meters above sea level, the weather is refreshingly cool (there's no need to turn on the air-con!). If you are an early riser, you will love the stunning sight of the sun rising behind the hill. You can enjoy this magnificent view in the comfort of your private balcony. We spent many quiet moments lazing at the lounge chairs catching up on our novels, with nature's music provided by the chirping birds, insects sounds, and distant cow mooing. The view from our balcony is awesome!

We signed up for two interesting activities offered by Puri Sebatu. The Balinese cooking class includes an early morning trip to a local market to get to know the ingredients used during the cooking class. Witnessing the buzzing activities in the busy market is already an experience! Later we get to meet 'Blacky' the head chef of Rumah Gadang restaurant at the cooking hut. Blacky is very patient, accommodating and makes our cooking experience enjoyable (although he did most of the chopping and slicing!). You will get to eat what you have cooked for lunch!

Be prepared to shiver from the extreme cold water when you join the cleansing purify ceremony! We strolled pass magnificent rice terrace, and walked down a long flight of steps before reaching the holy waterfall. The hotel sent two friendly staff who chatted with us during our scenic journey. They guided us through the entire cleansing ceremony. The experience was refreshing and rather exhilarating! While we were climbing back up the steps, my wife suddenly felt giddy and nausea. The staff patiently waited till my wife felt better, comforted her with caring words, before helping her up the remaining steps to our waiting car. Once we were back in our villa, we were pleasantly surprised when a complimentary pot of hot ginger tea was immediately delivered to our villa. And for the rest of the day, every staff was asking after my wife's well being when they saw us. Impressive!

Dinner at the Rumah Gadang restaurant is like dining in your huge private villa. You have a personal waiter and chef to serve you because many guests preferred to order in-villa dining. The temperature will dropped to 18-19 C in the early evening. We get to enjoy a perfectly cool, peaceful and romantic dinner every evening (do wear warm clothing if you are not used to the cool weather).

The SPA centre is under renovation, therefore massages has to be done in our villa or balcony. Please note that internet wifi is not available, you need to use the internet PC located at the yoga centre, or ask for a USB modem if you have a laptop. Although the journey from the airport to Puri Sebatu is about 2 hours, our driver will gladly drop us midway for lunch, short sightseeing or even shopping stops before we continue with our journey!

Overall, Puri Sebatu exceeded our expectations. If you are looking for a place to just 'eat, read, swim, massage, & sleep', or just a peaceful retreat to recharge yourselves, I highly recommend this cosy resort. As their slogan says, "It is a wonderful home to escape ...".

Room Tip: Higher floors, villa 102-104. Near restaurant and reception.
