“The old Bali”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2012 via mobile

What a gorgeous place to start our holiday. Great uncrowded surf spot beautiful sunsets. We stayed in Ocean View B but all the rooms looked awesome. Every meal we ordered was superb especially the duck, best we've ever eaten. Definitely get the transfers for AUD$45 worth every dollar but while there hire a motorbike for $5 per day to get around out on the main road be very weary of traffic it's the only main road linking Java & Bali so a lot of trucks. The staff couldn't do enough for us. Thanks Tati for creating this little piece of heaven we will definitely be back.

Stayed for 2 nights in July 2012. Very easy bookings etc. We elected to stay at the Bungalows as they had pool for our daughter. The place is on the river and very shadyand out of the wind etc. Its the kitchen and bathroom at bottom and then up to the twin bedroom and then our bedroom at top.We found it clean and no problems with mossies It would be a great place to stay longer because of the kitchen and fridge. Bit of a bummer coming down the 2 flights at night to pee! It a 5 minute walk along the river or the road to the surf spot. Good spot to sit and have a bite to eat there. We id some nice walks up the hill and around to the next beach, its far enough away from the highway to not hear it too much. Other places to eat, but this is not a shopping or night club place. its surfing and walking and reading

Room Tip: Maybe the ground floor villas would be better if you have little kids or bad knees for getting down...

Although the location is great, the house we stayed at was extremely dirty. We stayes at the Dalhia house. The musquitonets were not sufficient as they had lots of holes in it or did not close at all. The fans in the house were old and not working properly as was the safe. Absolutly Nothing was done after telling the staff about this. Breakfast was okay. The beds were really terrible, we all had back and neckaches every morning. There might be some new houses that are better, but the maintenance on the old ones was just too bad. A real pitty cause it is such a nice location.

We are a family of 5 who stayed in the Ocean View rooms, which we thought were quaint, until the rain came. Unfortunately, it rained the whole 4 days we were in Balian (even tho it was July) and trying to go between the 2 rooms without getting drenched was impossible. The 2 rooms shared a balcony, so in dry weather conditions would have been perfect. The views were fantastic.
The staff were excellent and very attentive. They always informed us when they were going into our rooms to make them up. Tom's Garden restaurant is the best food around. While you do have to wait a little, we were not in any hurry, so it didn't matter. We mostly ate Indonesian food whilst in Bali and this was delicious, and so cheap.

We stayed in the Timor bungalow and we can tell that it's made with love and with particular attention to the details like the rest of the hotel. BUT the bungalow itself is very small, dark, the net over the bed was filthy and what is most important - it's overpriced! There were no owners at that period and I had an impression that the staff was too anxious to make something wrong in their absence and was not promt for nothing to please the guests and make them comfortable. We shifted on the next day in another hotel twice cheaper, really lovely with beautyfull view. And I met the people who did the same. To be honest the restaurant Tom's Garden is not that bad and Nengah (on the picture) is a nice fellow notwithstanding we couldn't persuaded him to gather other 4 people for Buby Guling:)) As for Fredi - don't relax when he repeats your order otherwise you'll be forced to eat something different from what you've ordered even it's the matter of 20.000 Rp he will not recognise his mistake and will not change your plate. I've heard that the owner is very nice lady so I hope that the atmosphere changes in her presence.

Had a week in the 2 storey villa on the surfer package which included being picked up late from the airport and dropped back to Legian where we were staying for a few more days. The 2 storey villa had plenty of room with a double bed upstairs and daybed and lounge downstairs. The daybed has a pullout under bed also. Little kitchenette to make coffee/tea and large semi outdoor bathroom/toilet. Our only complaint was the dustiness of the place - the main bed is built on a frame and appears to be fixed to the wall so underneath was filthy. The mosquito net hadn't been cleaned for ages and there was actually a pile of dirt accumulated on top. Some of the pillows were incredibly musty. We asked the staff to clean under the bed and the mosquito nets but they only swept it under a bit and it was still filthy up the far end. The mosquito nets remained musty so we just covered ourselves in mosquito repellant and slept without the net down. The day cushions stunk and I actually took off the covers and left them in a pile and told the staff they needed to be washed. Well, they promptly put them all back on again unwashed - I gave up. Tom's cafe is very handily located literally a few metres next door and the meals were really good. Breakfast is simple but good. Free wifi (sometimes a bit slow) from 9am-6pm. The package also included 2 trips to Medewi or a sightseeing trip (we only used one) and 2 massages each - very good. You can walk into the village (about 10min walk) to use the ATM and eat in the marketplace there at night. We got home made Kentucky Fried chicken pieces for about 50c a piece - yummo. Just down the road from Pondok Pisces is Deckis warung which has an excellent view of the surf and good food also. The pool for Pondok Pisces is located at their sister accommodation along the river - about 10 min walk. On the lower side of Pondok Pisces we noticed some very nice accommodation called Villa Tranquil which was airconditioned and had a pool - didn't see inside but met some people staying there who said it was very nice.

Room Tip: Didn't see the other rooms so can't comment.

We stayed here at the Pondok Pisces for a few nights in March. It's funny, after reading some other views, our expectation was obviously so different - as this was one of the nicest places we stayed in 6 weeks of Bali!
We loved our ocean view rooms & found the place to be clean & well taken care of. I loved the sliding doors that opened onto the patio. The warm breeze blowing in at night was so dreamy. It was also so great to have our own little fridge & tv & dvd!
It was a short walk down the hill to the lovely quiet beach. Everyone is super friendly. It was a special place. My friend did a workshop in making offerings while her son did a gamelan workshop. Nice walks. Great pool to access.
The village is sweet but you better remember to travel with your tampons as they do not sell them anywhere!! It was fun trying to figure this one out!!

Room Tip: Wait until you arrive & check out all the options!
