My girlfriend booked a groupon voucher for Ayung resort for my birthday, near the start of our travels in Indonesia. First of all the setting for the hotel is incredible, surrounded by lush rainforest not far out of Ubud. Our room and ensuite were fantastic and our balcony overlooked a beautiful infinity pool. Perfect place for a few days relaxation. The staff and service were the best I have ever encountered. All the staff members knew us by first name and nothing was too much trouble for them. Attentive in the restaurant, great knowledge of their menu and drinks and always smiling. My girlfriend had booked a 'candlelight dinner' for my birthday evening and asked them in advance to make it special... As it turned out, our candlelight dinner was actually reserved on the private terrace, a beautiful table overlooking the mountains surrounded by rose petals in a heart-shape on the floor and a complimentary champagne cocktail. The whole thing surprised my girlfriend as much as it did me!
We had a degustation for the evening - five FULL-SIZE courses from the menu! Soft shell crab salad, creamy sweetcorn soup, foie gras, fillet steak and blueberry crumble cake. We were stuffed but every single dish was phenomenal. Needless to say we ate at the restaurant every night after that!
The a la carte breakfast menu and complimentary afternoon tea were amazing also.

The whole resort has been planned out to the last detail. Flick a switch when you leave your room and it notifies housekeeping to immediately clean the room, the floor tiles around the pool do not absorb the heat meaning you don't burn your feet walking around with no sandals...the entire place is flawless and each member of staff has clearly been trained to the highest level, with great personality and sincerity. The spa provides an amazing outdoor massage to the sounds of the rainforest below and the free morning yoga classes are a great start to the day.

Don't miss the stunning (and massive!) stone carvings further down the resort which can be seen only by guests after a short walk and add a final touch of class and humility to this beatiful place. An absolute must stay for anyone visiting Bali!!

We stayed here for 5 nights in April 2015. We absolutely loved the hotel. Incredibly friendly, helpful and personal service. Great breakfast. Lovely clean room with big bed. The hotel was really quiet while we were there so we practically had the pool to ourselves.

The hotel is about a 20 minute drive from Ubud. The hotel has a shuttle bus 3 times a day and a taxi costs about 10 AUD. We loved this location. Ubud is fun but very busy so it was great to be able to enjoy the town and then escape back to Ayung - nestled in the forest.

The hotel also has complimentary yoga every morning which we loved.

The food in the restaurant is delicious. An incredible range on the menu. We had breakfast every day and dinner twice. The food was the best we found in Ubud.

I can't rate this hotel highly enough. Would absolutely recommend it.

The Ayung Resort was an oasis of luxury for our 3-night visit to Ubud. Our villa, overlooking the valley and with its own private pool, was so beautiful and comfortable we were tempted not to leave it at all!! The staff were extremely helpful and accommodating, and I was particularly delighted that they were happy to serve our breakfast on the terrace of the villa. Although all of the staff were extremely helpful, day and night, Fendy Wijaya deserves a special mention. Meeting him was our favourite experience in Ubud. Fendy was incredibly helpful and thoughtful - driving us all around Ubud to interesting sights, and even introducing us to a lunch of local streetfood. Ubud is beautiful, the Ayung Resort is a treat, and if you have the pleasure of meeting Fendy, you will enjoy your stay all the more!

Room Tip: If you can, go for one of the villas- they're so secluded and great for a romantic break.

To get straight to the point, sadly I was badly bitten by bed bugs at the Ayung Resort a couple of nights ago.

After a short nap in the afternoon, I came up in a lot of very itchy bites (or a rash, we first thought), so went to a local doctor at the Ubud Clinic. They confirmed that the bites were from bed bugs, and prescribed all necessary medications.

We looked in the bed, notified the staff at Ayung (a very helpful Night Manager), and after some looking around the room (and seeing the bed bugs for himself) we were moved to a room which unfortunately also had a very large centipede and a dead gecko on the floor. And so, we were moved to a third room. We didn't sleep at all unfortunately (for fear of more bites), but at least we were moved.

This is not to say the resort is completely infested with bed bugs, but that in our particular room (216), we found (along with an Ayung staff member) a large number of bed bugs (alive), as well as their eggs, shells and excrement around the bed mattress.

All I would suggest is that if you wish to stay at Ayung, you would confirm that they have fumigated the premises. Especially if you are in room 216! They did not seem at all focused on such solutions at the time, worryingly.

On the positive side, Ayung does live up to its 'grand' reputation. It's old school Bali glamour x1000. Minimalists would most likely hate its style, but covered in some exceptional carvings (that stone wall is out of this world!), it is some of the most unique accommodation we've seen.

(It is worth noting that Ayung did give the room to us at no cost, however this did not come without a bit of resistance after we were asked to pay our bill in the morning! Rather rich we thought, as I stood there and itched like a crazy person!

Dear Steph P,

First of all we would like to apologize for your sad experience at the Ayung Resort.

After we have made a full investigation, we have found that you have not been bitten by Bed Bugs but by "Serangga". This is a small locally know insect similar to a small flying mosquito, a type only found in the rain forest and only active after a long period of rain fall.

All our rooms have now been double check and we have increased our organic spraying for this type of mosquito.

Again our sincere apologies and we hope that you have fully recovered.

Frits Henskes.

This is hands down the best place to stay! From the room to the food to the service we were absolutely blown away by our experience here. the kindness we were shown by every single staff member we encountered will stay with us forever. They even arranged our fast boat trip to gili island, and arranged a driver to take us out for a day trip(his name was Made Suyadnya and we certainly recommend him, he was awesome!) thank you to all the staff at Ayung Resort for an unforgettable stay at your breathtaking resort, and a shoutout to the young man who personally took care of us at our Kresna Villa. we can't wait for our next visit there!

We were recommended this hotel by friends and when we arrived it surpassed all our expectation.Rooms were large and confortable with fantastic views of the jungle and swimming pool. The staff were super friendly and helpful. It was a little far away from Ubud centre about 20 min by car but that was part of the charm. However, the hotel has a free shuttle service 3 times a day. Breakfast was amazing with michelin star standard with a lot of variety. It is definitely a great romantic get away resort.
We would like to give more information but we dont want to give all the nice touches away. Enjoy!!
