“Pleasant and very quiet”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2013

We stayed there in March this year. The place is really nice. Lovely main buildings. Great place for breakfast. Lovely pool. Great view down over the valley. Our room was really nice . Loved the outdoor shower and bath which was very private. The decor was typical. The only thing I can say is that the bed was a bit hard.We were on the ground floor so had a little private little garden. The monkeys that visited the ground were a delight to watch. The breakfasts were really good. The staff are wonderful.
Alila is the place to go if you don't want to have a tv and you want to be in bed early. A place for the more mature I think. We found it a little far out of Ubud and the taxi's don't run late. Not a place for young people at all ,or a place for families as there is not much to do except wander around adjacent rice paddies or walk. A bit off the beaten track .

Room Tip: ask the staff. they are wonderful and will help.

Located within the paddy fields and the jungle, the Alila Ubud is a place to go if you're looking for peace and serenity. It is far away from everything, so if you're looking to go out, this is not the ideal place to stay.

The room we stayed in was old and needed some major refurbishing. The pool area was quite impressive although there were never enough lounge chairs which was very disappointing. The hotel should come up with a 'no reserving' policy.

There's only one F&B outlet and the food was quite good. Very healthy and organic.

Not a place I would recommend if you don't like being isolated from the rest of the world.

This was the 2nd time I was here , previously was 8yrs ago, nothing has changed, and the hotel is def in need of an upgrade to the rooms, furniture in the restaurant and the pool needs a little maintenance.

The location is great if you want a romantic jungle getaway or honeymoon. Mostly couples when i s here and a mixture of ages . It's secluded and so peaceful, the monkeys wandering the hotel grounds are a real treat. I would suggest booking a valley villa or a deluxe room the superior is not amazing. The service is good but not amazing , the staffs english could be better, the food is great but a tad expensive, but considering the location it's understandably a little dearer.
The remoteness can be a pain if you want to run out to shop but that's what most on the jungle are like , but the hotel ex service is good and a cab is about $6A each way.
I've looked at other hotels in he area and this seems like a very good option still for price and value. I would stay again as its such a gorgeous setting but hope its renovated by then

Arrival: unspectacular although there would be solid space for more sense of arrival, seems a little lack of enthusiasm?

Dinner service finishes quite early, beverages are only served till 23:00 and 15 min's to the cocktail bar is closed just good we are happy with a beer as well. Later it's hard to send the waiter to bed, overly talkative...

The breakfast was nice. Great location, nice setting, good choice, ... pretty much the highlight of the stay.

One of the main hotel features, is the pool. Too small for a busy hotel with not enough sun loungers as we have to realise...

The staff overall is very friendly, keen to do their best as far as in any way possible. Without hesitation they go the extra mile if you ask for a little extra service eg food item not on the menu. Nice attitude.

The Spa experience in short can be described as nice with no frills, you get what you pay for no much ritual like foot-wash or so like in many places. Some like it like this, others favor the ceremonial way.

Overall Alila Ubud couldn't really convince, some nice features but the main downside is the lack of maintenance and love to the property as it seems. Another annoying point was the loud nightclub music with was heard till early morning.

Almost forgot, no TV in the room! Wouldn't miss it if the internet speed would be better.

I stayed in Alila Ubud for the first 5 nights of my solo trip to Bali (june 16-21stJune) and without a doubt was the best of the 5 star hotels I stayed in. For a number of reasons, however the main being the excellent, personal service offered by all the staff. The hotel room (room219) was really lovely, beautifully decorated, with an outdoor terrace with an amazing view of the surrounding tropical forest, there were monkeys strolling across in the mornings!

Ika, the guest relations host, was fantastic, she kept me company at breakfast on my first day there and enlightened me on the local culture. The waitresses and waiters were all lovely, remembered my name and were always smiling and welcoming (Puri was delightful) . The food was excellent, of a very high standard, the best I had in Bali, , in particular the A la carte breakfast was such a treat. Complimentary afternoon tea was provided between 4-5pm, which was really nice.

There was mostly couples at the hotel, a few honeymooners, with very few children, so it was quiet and very relaxing, which suited me perfectly.

The spa was of a very high standard, I had a 90 minute Balinese massage and pedicure, which was wonderful. The staff in the spa were all very professional and are a benchmark as to how all spas should be run.

There is a complimentary shuttle bus at regular intervals to the centre of Ubud, which was really useful.

I hope to return to the Alila Ubud someday.

My partner and I spent the second week of our honeymoon at this hotel and loved every minute of it! Set some 20 minutes or so taxi journey out of the centre of Ubud, the hotel is approached visa long driveway that winds between rice fields and picturesque countryside. The hotel itself is located in a valley clearing surrounded by jungle and is not overlooked by any other properties or hotels - bliss.
Upon arrival, we were very warmly welcomed by hotel staff and given an introduction to the hotels and its facilities as well as being given a very welcome cool drink! After this we were shown to our room whereupon we learnt about the only slight negative feature regarding this hotel - the steps!!! To get anywhere in this hotel - to reception, our room, the restaurant, the hotel shop, the spa and especially to the infinity pool area, you have to negotiate steep steps without handrails - just to get down to the pool area there were over 60 steps !! My partner has difficulties walking and whilst we were aware that there were some steps onsite and had advised the hotel in advance of our situation, the reality of the situation was much more difficult to negotiate and for this reason I would not recommend anyone with a disability from staying here given that there are no disabled access facilities such as ramps, stair lift or indeed any other lift at this hotel, or anywhere else in Bali actually!! On the positive side of things, however, the hotel staff were very understanding of our situation and tried to help us as much as possible by giving us a room as close to the restaurant as possible and offering us assistance up and down the stairs but, nevertheless, the stairs were a problem for my partner during our stay.
Apart from this, however, I can only describe our stay here as idyllic :) Being set in a woodland setting, you live in luxury amongst the sights and sounds of the jungle - monkeys can regularly be seen wandering round the hotel grounds, even visiting guests' balconies - truly magical :) Rest assured they were not aggressive and left guests well alone and, apart from a small lizard and some ants, we didn't see any other creepy crawlies or reptiles to worry about. The rooms are quiet, comfortable, really well equipped and appointed with (in our case) beautiful views across the infinite pool and the lush jungle valley. The food at this hotel is truly to die for - the executive chef is a genius - that's all I can say !!! :)
All of this would be nothing, however, without the staff and service at this hotel which were fabulous !! Nothing but nothing was too much trouble and they were so friendly and attentive ( but in a totally non intrusive way) Everything just 'happened' as if by magic - hotels in the UK could learn so much from the Balinese regarding their attitude and work ethic it's untrue!
We took a few trips out in the evening using the free hotel minibus service into Ubud town centre which was very handy although a later last departure time from the hotel would have been very much appreciated as not everyone wants to go out at 4.30pm! Otherwise taxis down into town are quickly ordered by reception so transport is not really a problem despite the hotel's out of town location.
The hotel has on onsite spa which I urge all guests to use at least once during their stay as it's setting and treatments are truly heaven on a plate! I had a manicure, pedicure and full body treatment and virtually floated out the spa! The technicians are so friendly, polite and really put you at ease - the treatment rooms are 5 star - outdoor showers, baths the lot - all set amongst luscious vegetation and peace and quiet - sheer bliss AND the prices are very reasonable too! :)
Finally, another 'must not miss' feature of this hotel is the hotel shop located under the spa, not large but stocked with lots of lovely nick backs, presents, clothes and jewellery that you won't find elsewhere - really worth a look!
All in all the Alilia Ubud is a little piece of heaven. Luxurious, tranquil, perfect in almost every way. Perfect for those who want peace, quiet, luxury and to get away from it all but who still want to experience the sights, sounds and experiences of the wonderful Bali !!

Visited on our honeymoon. The Alila Ubud was stunning, surrounded by spectacular views and placed in the heart of the rainforest. The hotel staff were excellent and very friendly and the management and all staff made a huge effort to to make you feel very welcome.
The food in the restaurant was very good and the portions very generous, alcoholic beverages a little pricey but only in comparison to prices in Ubud, though on Friday there was complimentary cocktails/beers along with a Balinese dance performance and "spice market", offering a sample of Balinese dishes (for an additional cost). The breakfast menu was quite extensive ranging for Indonesian breakfast to croissants.
The rooms were nice and the addition of the shower/ bath tub being outside was a very nice touch. There are a lot of steps at the hotel with little alternatives in terms of ramps, The hotel staff were excellent providing us with the room closest to the the pool, restaurant and other facilities due to my wife being injured prior to arriving at the Alila and having difficulties walking.
The Alila has a very relaxed and constantly chilled out atmosphere. The spa facilities were excellent and very clean as was the entire hotel. I would recommend the early morning poolside Yoga, with one of the most pleasant instructors I have ever met.
The Alila is approx 15-25 mins via the complimentary shuttle (depending on traffic). The hotel shuttle has a last pick up in Ubud at 6pm, though taxi cost approx 70,000 IRP (approx £4-5), though alternatively you can easily pick up a taxi in Ubud.
The Alila Ubud makes a good point to explore Bali with its location being very central, and coming back to relax in the most spectacular pool I have ever been in. However, The Alila Ubud is in up in the rainforest, so expect some rain (sometimes heavy) and spectacular thunderstorms in the evenings, an occasional visit from Monkeys round the pool and an array of tropical noises throughout the night.
All in all, a fantastic hotel, great location and very friendly staff.
