Some friends and I took a dear older friend to Ophelia's for lunch for her birthday. It is a lovely restaurant in Independence Square, a historical area of Independence. We had great service and the food was good. Ophelia's is one of the nicer restaurants in Independence and I've eaten there numerous times. It is located in a lovely section of Independence and I would recommend taking a walk around the square after eating at the restaurant if you're visiting the area. There is only one problem with Ophelia's. It is inconsistent in service and food. The majority of times, it is very good but I can't say it is consistently good. Out of the 4 meals we had for lunch, mine was the odd one out. I ordered a dinner salad:Spinach and Strawberries. My dinner salad was smaller than my friends side Caesar salad. When I commented on the disparity, my waiter went to talk with the chef. The waiter came back and apologized and said the chef told him that there were more expensive ingredients in my salad so that was why it was so small. I have had numerous salads in numerous restaurants and never heard such an odd explanation. Fortunately I had ordered a soup to go with my salad and this kept me from starving. On the other hand, my fellow diners had a large meat filled sandwhich and a side salad for only a few dollars more. The difference in our lunches was quite apparent. This was the second time I heard an odd explanation for a complaint. I complained a few years back about my duck being pink (almost red) and was told that was the way it was served. I sent it back and got a dinner salad instead (quite large that time). Anyway, if Ophelia's could be more consistent, it could be a destination restaurant. Until then, it is a nice place to visit if you know what to order.
