We had to stay in East Bali because we were going diving in this area. This is the nicest and yet reasonable place to stay in the area. Of course, just next to the resort is another beautiful resort, too, Amankila. But it offer price that triples, even quadruples, from the ones offered in Alila Manggis.
The location is very nice. It has easy access from the main road, but since the area is not (yet) crowded, it gives a feeling of seclusion. The resort has access to the sandy beach, but during high tides the ocean just makes the beach disappear.
The room is pretty small but clean and comfortable. There is hardly any place for an extra bed. Usually the third person is placed on the daybed in front the main bed, which is very narrow and not recommended for an older child or an adult. The bed itself is quite comfortable. The view from the room is lovely. All rooms have direct ocean view.
This establishment is well known for its good food. The food always comes tasty and delicious and fresh. From breakfast to dinner, we were always had enjoyable dining time. Even during the afternoon snack served on the hotel garden by the pool, the traditional snack that looks just ordinary like the ones we find somewhere else ends up making our tounges happy. The drawback is that the food is very, very pricey; just like what we would find in a more luxurious property in the more touristy part of Bali. But the quality match, though. It just that the price surprised so many hotel guests. There is also another reason for the high price: outside the hotel, there is no decent eateries.
For divers who want to dive in east side of Bali and stay in a nice resort, this is the place. The dive site of Blue Lagoon in Padang Bai is just less than thirty-minute-ride away from the hotel. The Liberty Wreck in Tulamben is further away, about eighty-minute ride to the north; but there is no nice and lux resort in Tulamben.
Last but not least, the resort management appreciates a return visit from the guests. They show their appreciation by giving away one free dinner for two or one sixty-minute massage for two at the spa. Pretty nice, isn't it.
