As budget travellers we were looking to pay as little as possible, but when we saw the Zen rooms we were happy to pay a little more and still not much. The rooms were very characteristic, not something you come to expect when travelling Asia. Clean rooms, clean towels provided and a great little patio area. The staff and management were friendly and welcoming. We would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a comfortable, cheap and homely room.

Free wi-fi in the inexpensive rooms, the best restaurant for Western food (with a clean kitchen, too), and fantastic staff made the Zen Inn a delightful place to stay.

As the main port for Lombok and the Gilis, Padang Bai has an interesting scene, as well--plenty of bars, restaurants, and shops (even 24-hours) despite being a refreshingly authentic village.

This hotel might have looked better in the past. I only know that the maintenance is very low at the moment with tiles falling from the shower walls for example. And for a good night sleep, you better seek another location. The Zen Inn rooms are located directly to a busy street closeby the entrance of the harbor port. This means a lot of traffic and noise. If you are staying for just a day, it's ok. Then you might get loaded with beer in the restaurant of the Zen Inn and pass out in your room. The food is good, especially the snacks and dinner. Zen Inn is cheap. You pay about 14 Euro per night for the room and a simple breakfast. But for 10 Euro more per night you will get better location elsewhere in Padang Bai and a good night's sleep.

So, What do you expect for the price?
We have clean rooms, crisp white sheets freshly laundered towels and fresh brown bread for your breakfast. Show me a shower tile that has fallen off the wall and I win very gladly refund your money!

I choose Zen Inn specifically b/c of the reviews on Trip Advisor as everyone kept saying that It had a great atmosphere that you don't usually get in larger hotels. From the 1st day I was happy that I had made the right choice. Liam, and especially the Girls (Trouble 1,2,3 and Big Trouble!) were always friendly, helpful and great fun to be around.

After diving all day I just needed a chilled out place to relax, listen to good music (Liam let me make my own playlist on his i-tunes), have a cold beer and meet some interesting people and have a laugh...and this is what I got night after night..Liam is definitely an interesting character with a wealth of travelling/life experience who was great fun to be around. I had the all-you-can-eat BBQ twice and it was a great mix of meat, veg and fresh fish that everyone enjoyed. The rooms are basic but all I wanted was a clean room, comfy bed and a shower...and that's what I got...I loved the outside shower in my little backyard.

I had a great time at Zen Inn because everyone there did everything they could to make my stay enjoyable..many thanks Liam & Girls!!

Considering that the Zen Inn is not even listed in the Lonely Planet guide, we decided to stay here for a few nights in March following the supposedly great reviews found on TA. Unfortunately, I have to admit we have been quite disappointed by our stay and the place was not quite up to the expectation. The rooms and the toilet are not particularly clean and the food at the restaurant is definitely overpriced: we also ate here for the bbq night, but the food wasn't really something to jump off the chair...The 150.000 Rp room rate comes with breakfast, but you have a very limited choice (such as a small fruit salad or two slices of toast with jam) and you have to pay extra for a fulfilling one.. Liam the owner was actually a nice man...it would have been nice to ask him some info about the surroundings but we have been able to find him and talk just the night before our departure!
In summary, we wouldn't come back in this place; walking in town we found several other places that cost the same but looked much more value for the money.

With surroundings that Kathryn Zeta-Jones wouldnt feel out of place in, Zen Inn is the only place to relax in Padang Bai Bali. The Staff cant help but do everything for you, even down to ordering phone pulsa (credit) from behind the bar! The host Liam has a depth of knowledge that puts lonely planet to shame, including a wicked recipe for beef and mango Jamaican style!! and the famous bar-b-q nights where you eat till you drop! Cold beers, clean fresh rooms and a certain chilled atmosphere thats needed when traveling. See you in November Zen Inn... Ben & Clare, Tenby - Wales... :)

I walked into the bar inquisitvely. "Any rooms available, sure" a hand was shown, the hand of Liam the owner and with it days of some of the best converstion, coffee and food south East Asia has to offer. A group gathered, fashion designers, sailors, hippies and a few Irish men and that was it,..the rest was history. Its a place you'll wander into but within no time you get that friendly atmosphere that Liam and the girls have built. A good place to set up and relax before heading East.

We were passing through for a day and we stayed here for 4...that tells its own story.

Thanks Liam and Zen Inn for a great start to what has been a great trip so far,

Rory & Vince
