“Construction work influenced our stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2011

Our stay was at the Puri Rai was just in the period that the hotel was undergoing its last extension. The construction works were quite loudly and on Sunday they decided to make a new floor in using a cement-pump and several cement-trucks.

The first room they offered to us was directly adjacent to the construction site.

Nevertheless I have to admit that the staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room was large, but we did not have any chair and the decoration was quite minimalist. The bathroom was large and 100% perfect. However, we were forced to let the extraction fan turning the whole time, as rats do live in free space above the ceiling.

The rats are attracted by the generous offers in / or in front of the different altars/temples.

Positive is the fact that the Puri Rai has 3 large swimmingpools.

I have to give "Average", as overall rating due to the construction works.

Room Tip: Try to obtain a room as far as possible from the beach, but near one of the swimmingpools.

Nice, big rooms with comfy beds and a huge bathroom. Very clean, and well taken care of. There was a TV here as well, which was nice after a week of not having one (I'm ashamed to admit). Our room had a nice covered porch with cushy, which we sat on to watch the storm in the evening. Lovely marble steps, but watch your flip flops on them, especially after rainfall....you might find yourself draped across the stairs as I did.

The food at the hotel restaurant is good compared to what we ate in the village. The drinks and snacks at the hotel store were the most expensive of anywhere we encountered on this trip. No internet here, but there are a few computers just down the street in a cafe.

There really is not a lot to do in Padang Bai, most people who stay here are transferring to the Gili Islands, as we were.

The hotel is situated close to the pier for the ferry to Lombok in rather unattractive surroundings.
The room we stayed in was fairly large but basic.
On either side of the hotel are a number of good eating places.
This is a hotel just for people who go on or are coming back from a ferry trip or who want to do scuba diving.
The breakfast was poor and the waiters barely spoke English.

We stayed at Puri Rai for three nights as an escape from the hustle and bustle of Jakarta. The rooms are very clean and spacious and the grounds are very nice, with three pools and a nice garden area. Our room had a nice balcony with a view of one of the pools and the beach was right across the street from us. The staff was very helpful and friendly and we would definitely stay here again if we visit Padang Bai. Stayed here for a couple of nights before heading off to Lombok - and it was OK but not brilliant.

On the positive side, the room was spacious and clean and had a fridge and nice terrace - and there were three swimming pools. However despite the large number of staff, service was pretty limited - we had to carry our bags to and from our room and go to reception to request pool towels, and the rooms weren't cleaned til late in the day.

Whilst we had a room close to the pool, some of the rooms overlooked the car park which was pretty dismal. Breakfast was also pretty basic and there was a limited choice. Also breakfast didn't start til 7.30 when the ferry pick -ups were 7.45am.

Padang Bai seems to ahve suffered from the introduction of direct ferries from Kuta and Amed - but it's a really sweet, laid-back place and we had some of our best (and best-priced) food of our holiday here.

Overall we would recommend the Puri Rai as long as you get a room near the pool!

I always stay at Puri Rai when I go to Padangbai and this time was better than ever! The rooms have been done up and they are spacious and comfortable. The staff is really helpful and friendly. Ketut in reception and Komang the room boy really stick out with their excellent level of service, but they are all good. With three lovely swimming pools you can often have one all to yourself! Large beautiful gardens and right by the beach. Many people make the mistake of only staying in Padangbai a night or two on the way to Lombok. Stay longer! Get to know the locals, explore the region and relax! Happy Travels!

We've stayed here for two nights after reading reviews saying it was the best hotel in Padangbai. Well, if this was the best, I certainly don't want to see the rest of the hotels there...
The room was ok, but the bathroom was completely filled with mould and the window was broken. The location of the room was terrible, we later found out there were more rooms next to the pool, I think those were a lot better!
The laundry service of the hotel ruined some of our clothes; stains in shorts, underwear and white dress...
Quality of breakfast was very low.

If this was a cheap hotel, it would've been fine, but it's way too expensive.
