“Looks amazing but so disappointed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2013

We arrived here and were blown away by the look of the place. Pools gorgeous. Lobby outstanding room spacious and clean.
Alas that was soon overshadowed by lots of problems. The main one being the airconditioning. Our room was stuck on 15 degrees for hours despite 2 requests to fix it. Finally the technician managed to get it to 18 after turning off one of the units. We requested 21 and were assured it would reach that. Slept all night bundled up and this morning have sore necks due to the cold. Outside is 30 degrees and we are sure to get colds. Still not fixed after 24 hours an 4 requests. On top of that the toilet wouldn't flush and there was no hot water yesterday for showers. These 2 problems were fixed. Have been travelling for 5 weeks staying in hotels all through asia including India and Nepal. This is the most expensive hotel I have stayed in and the worst service !

You would never hate by the time you are stepping into the room, it feels like wonderful, I mean the size, facilities and everything feel wonderful, we are kinda guys that like to walk see around, taking pictures and of course eat. So somehow we think we really had nice pictures there, and took us really comfortable to walk around seeing attractions, and last but not least, you would love the breakfast!

Check in was easy and painless especially when you have 2 younger children in tow late at night. We stayed 5 nights in a pool view room, we were really impressed with the entire complex, from the massive pool, gazebo's, dining area's, not to mention the breakfast spread which we all looked forward to every morning! My boys loved the kids club, they would come and go as they pleased. We did spend most of our days at the Stones, so we were prepared for a hefty room bill at the end of our stay. Next time I would most likely venture our for a few more meals, that being said the meals we had were very delicious and can not complain. We would definitely return to the Stones and will recommend this hotel to family and friends.

Room Tip: If you are going as a family would book the corner suites, more room otherwise would need to book 2...

We stayed 5 days in the Stones and really enjoyed it. The rooms are very spacious and nicely decorated. Bathroom could have more privacy though as you have to pass through the bathroom to enter the room. THough, once in the room, everything is very nice and tastefully decorated in a modern, slick style. Terrace is very nice, bathtub is great and internet is fast.

The food in the restaurant is a real delight. All very fresh, portions are rather small, though quality is just excellent. Same with the breakfast. Happy hour is fun with music entertainment and cocktails at 2 for 1 base. All good !

We had to move rooms once because of an ant invasion in our room. We do not blame the hotel for that as this can happen everywhere in Asia (even at our home in Singapore it happened) though it is of course ennoying to go to the room after midnight and be confronted with an ant colony. Though, the problem was quickly tackled. After one phone call, the bellboys were there to bring us all luggage to another room. All good !

We would suggest to take a room at the backside of the hotel and not at the poolside as it can be very noisy. Even after closing of the pool, people are still swimming. We had it twice that we called security because during the night a drunk crew took over the pool and had a wild, very noisy party. And it took us to phone after the party was ongoing for quite some time to convince security to make the intervention. Not good ! They promised us to change it. After all, there are armies of security guards at the hotel entrance and at the lobby entrance.

Overall, we spent an excellent holiday in the hotel and we will be back. We liked the excellent service, the design of the hotel, the Food & Beverage and the location.

Room Tip: Take a room at the backside if you want to avoid pool noise

Spent three nights at The Stones last week short trip to Bali. The service was impeccable from start to finish. I was upgraded from a garden view to a pool view room. It was wonderful and the room had everything you needed and wanted. The bed was extremely comfortable and made for an awesome nights sleep

I found all the staff at the hotel to be very helpful and cordial. However, the hotel does need to improve upon its food if it wants to be called a true five star. The menu options were definitely limited and the quality and taste of some of the items definitely lets a lot to be desired. the Turkey Panini by the pool on the first afternoon was absolutely horrid. I found their room service to be totally annoying. You delivery fried rice in a "chinese take away box". All the food inside is in layers and there is no offer of a plate to eat out of. So I ate the egg first and then the rice inside. Ordering ala carte at the restaurant or room service usually took quite a bit of time to be delivered as well. I did mention all this also in their survey which was mailed to be soon after my stay.

Would I stay at the Stones again? Probably but definitely will try to eat most of my meals outside. I was kind of stuck in eating at the hotel this time as I wanted to us$ 50 daily resort credit which was tied to my room.

The first thing that strikes you at the gates is how busy security is in this place. The lobby and room was nice. The pool is a serene escape from the busy street and beach outside.

What really will impress you is how efficient and friendly their staff is at the registration (Giri - hope I got the name right was a treat). 3 minute check-in that's how fast she was. It's as if they were there to provide your needs or whims that you have - from extra pillows, to extra Illy coffee capsules and creamer and even breakfast to go with the early morning flight. Special mention to the guys who were giving directions to taxi drivers to places we wanted to go to.

Just wanted to take note of cleaning guys who left footprint marks on the floor after making up the room.

I'd say its more of a modern hotel rather than a Balinese designed building but if you're the kind who likes peace and quiet surrounded by friendly and efficient staff then this is the place for you.

Room Tip: I guess the best rooms are the ones on the 1st floor with a jacuzzi/mini-pool.

Stayed here in May for 8 nights with our 2 daughters aged 10 and 4 in interconnecting pool view rooms, on 5th floor. All the reviews we read on TA proved correct. We loved The Stones. From the minute we arrived, to being personally greeted by name at check-in, all the staff were so friendly and helpful, right down to the room cleaner, everyone always said hello and smiled, the staff were brilliant, couldn’t do enough for you – the level of Service was outstanding.

The rooms are beautiful and ours overlooking the pool were stunning. The bath on the balcony was a quirky touch, but the lounges were lovely to relax on and the balconies a really good size. Beds were very comfortable. The rooms were spotless and well-appointed and very fresh, as the hotel has been open for less than 1 year. Expresso coffee machine in room was a great touch!

The breakfast at this hotel would have to be the best we have experienced so far in Bali and we’ve stayed previously at The Padma – everyone raves about their breakfast, and the Hyatt properties but honestly have to say The Stones was the best. The fresh pastries cooked daily on the premises are exceptional, so indulge and enjoy! Our kids could not resist the freshly cooked pancakes and there was even icecream available for breakfast !

The pool is the star attraction at The Stones and is beautiful. It is the same depth all across. It never seemed busy and many times we had the pool to ourselves. The towels were always replaced by the attentive pool staff and unlike other resorts, no signing for towels and needing to return them. Happy Hour around the pool was great but not all drinks are discounted, you need to check out the Happy Hour blackboard which is put out each evening with the discounted cocktail – we got caught on our first night. I think it would be better to have all drinks discounted at Happy Hour and perhaps more guests might stay.

The kids clubs is brand new and so fresh and inviting. It’s hidden behind the pool bar and may be missed if you aren’t looking for it, but perhaps that is the intention – for it to be unobtrusive. The staff there, Ita and Nobi are gorgeous and our youngest daughter, who can be quite challenging, still talks about them, they always called out to our daughter whenever they saw her – they were really beautiful and gave our girls such one-on-one attention, they felt very spoilt. There was a film room and separate reading area with a great choice of brand new books.

Rooms service was novel arriving in paper take-away containers, prices reasonable for this standard of hotel, choice not that extensive but adequate. The kids menu was also available on room service menu and good.

The Stones is well located opposite Kuta Beach towards the Legian end, and Melasti St. It is easy walking distance along the beachfront path to the new Boardwalk Centre which was great for shopping and eating. If you have kids try Jimmy Rockets (think that was the name) at Boardwalk – it’s a hoot and sure to give you a good laugh. Kuta Square for shopping is also a convenient walk, not much further than Boardwalk as are both the Poppies Lanes. Coming back from Seminyak and those restaurants at night we found it much quicker to have the taxi drop us off at the beach at the end of Padma St and walk the 2 blocks past the front of The Pullman Hotel to our hotel rather than doing the big loop back around Kuta to come up our one-way street, which runs along the beachfront – one night it took us 45 minutes to get back from Seminyak because of the traffic. Once we clued onto being dropped off and walking, we were sorted. The Stones was within easy walking distance to the beachfront restaurants at Legian and also the shopping in Garlic Lane off Melasti St.

Overall we were so impressed with The Stones and would return in a heart-beat!

Room Tip: Definitely get a pool view room
