“Best Choice for Kuta, Reasonable Price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2014

I stayed at this hotel for only 1 night with my 7 friends. Alam Kul Kul have room for 4 people.
The hotel located beach front at heart of Kuta and shopping street within walking distance.
Check-in / out process spend a bit long time but staffs are friendly.
The room is very big and clean. Atmosphere here is very nice.
Hotel spa is great! I take a nap while having the best aroma massage ever!
Kuta beach is just cross the street.

We stayed only 2 nights at alam kulkul, we both enjoyed everything about the hotel. It's close to everything kuta has to offer. Buffet breakfast was beautiful and the coffee was the best we had all trip. Highly recommend staying in this hotel.

our room was right at the end and near the bushes and plants so a lot of mosquitos.
Otherwise i love how unpretentious the place is n not flooded by mass loud tourists as opposed to its louder neighbors hardrock hotel etc.

We stayed here for two nights at the beginning of a 2 week stay as part of a dive safari with Aquamarine Diving. It was just the job, only took about 15 minutes to drive from the airport to hotel, smooth check in and lovely little room opposite the family pool. The room was immaculate and lovely and modern. The hotel itself is just across the road from the beach so you can dump your luggage and within a few minutes be sat on the beach watching the big waves roll in, just what you need after a long haul flight!

The location is also handy that you can just walk into the main centre within about 5-10 minutes and have a browse around the bars and shops but still feel secluded once back in the hotel, it was like a little oasis.

Bed very comfortable, had a very good night's sleep

There is a lovely little restaurant adjoined to the hotel where we ate the first night and the service was very attentive, they also do 'volcano' pizzas which have to be seen to be believed! They set them on fire!

Service at pool bar was great we had a snack and milkshake which was very nice.

If you stay here do what we did and get up at 6am and take a walk along the beach to the right of the hotel towards Legian (?), we were stunned to see so many locals all up already, taking their dogs for walks and walking all together as a family, some doing tai chi and jogging etc We had a good hour walk each way and then returned for a delicious buffet breakfast. Breakfast was pretty much everything you could want pancakes, bacon sausages, cereals eggs etc. A very quaint breakfast area too. Would definitely stay here again

3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2014

As a family we have travelled extensively through Bali and stayed at many different hotels, resorts and villas. Alam Kulkul was at best disappointing. We had booked a family room and after an efficient and friendly check in we were shown to our room which was on the 2nd floor of a 3 storey block at the rear of the resort. As soon as we opened the door an awful stench hit us, they had tried mask the smell with air freshener but with no success. I complained at reception and was immediately moved to a room on the 3rd floor, the smell was marginally better. This block has a serious drainage/sewer problem that needs addressing. The room itself was a fair size but in desperate need of renovation, tears and stained dividing curtain, patched up paint work and the bathroom though clean looked very dated and shabby. Credit though to the cleaning staff, the rooms are run down but not dirty.
The Gardens are very well manicured and all the walkways are clean and well maintained but the pools particularly the main one are in desperate need of some investment. The large pool has many missing tiles and mould everywhere. The tiles around the pool at water level are filthy and guests have scratched their names in the grime, very poor.
Breakfast was excellent with lots of choice but very hard to get a coffee, every morning we had to ask and where never offered a second cup without asking, again, I have never experienced this at a hotel any where in the world.
The staff at Alam kulkul were at all times friendly and courteous but I got the feeling that they lacked leadership, there are people everywhere but have no real direction eg; When we where at the pool there where 4 staff and 6 guests, there where no clean towels, the pool is in desperate need of a proper clean and the staff are just standing around. It is the same in the breakfast area, each morning at the time we ate there was never more than 4 tables but the 5 staff were unable to get anyone a coffee without prompting.
Would I stay at Alam Kulkul again? unlikely though I do believe that it has potential with some significant investment and organising of resources. Other guest who I spoke to said the Villas where very good so if you have booked a family room it might be worth upgrading?

Room Tip: Family rooms have unpleasant odour

We stayed at this resort 5 years ago and again on the tail end of our trip to Sanur on east coast Bali in January. We couldn't believe how much the Kuta and Legian areas have been developed in that time. Unfortunately the condition of Alam KulKul has deteriorated, the linens grey and tired, the pool area in desperate need of updating, gardens unkempt. We had a MAJOR problem with mosquitoes in our villa and couldn't control them even with 3 cans of insect repellent! As soon as you opened the door to the toilet and bathroom dozens and dozens of mosquitoes would attack you and fly into the bedroom area. Even with bed nets ( with holes) the mozzies found us during the night. Most of the staff were lovely and room service meals fast and tasty. The buffet breakfast is extensive and delicious however tea and coffee slow to be served and only on request. We spoke to the new manager who was keen to hear our thoughts on our stay compared to 5 years ago. We were charged half daily rate to extend our check out by 4 hours which I found expensive. The Italian Restaurant next door, Limoncello, is also looking tired but the food is still yummy. Its a shame that this gorgeous boutique hotel has failed to retain its previous high standards. We won't be returning on our next trip to Bali in March.

Room Tip: I can't recommend the villas due to mozzies but they are the pick of the rooms at hotel

My family and I travel to bali every year and have stayed at so many different resorts every time but this year we stayed at the Alam
Kulkul boutique Resort For the first time. Our stay was fantastic and the staff couldn't do enough for us the manager was always on hand for any question we had. We have booked our flights for 2014 and wouldn't consider staying anywhere but at the same resort it's like no other we have stayed at in the past 12 years. We have recommended the Alum kulkul to all our friends who regally travel to Bali . Congratulation to all the staff and thank you so much for all your hospitality see you all in June 2014 . Michelle Smith and family .
