The Padma was a good find and located maybe 100 metres from the beach (Maybe less)...the fact that the beach was pretty dirty was not the hotels fault. The pool is large with an in pool bar (which is fairly small) and there are enough loungers for everyone. The rooms are large, well appointed and they have a large separate bathroom. They easily accommodated 3 teenagers. The staff were delightful and very helpful. The breakfast spread was good but we did not eat in the hotel for dinner. Pool snacks at lunch (if required) were also pretty good. The location is good IF you don't want nightlife in close proximity. There are more than enough places to eat and drink within 5 minutes walk. 6 seater taxis wait outside (don't get the hotel cars inside the are an expense you do not have) to bear. The blue cabs also work well if there are only 4 of you...they are metered (yes you do want it turned on) airconditioned and are very reasonable (read cheap). To give you an idea a cab to 'Eat Street' in Seminyak will cost around 17,000 (round up for goodness sake) and to Waterbom (good fun) in Tuban about 24,000. The larger 6 seaters are generally in pretty good condition, with aircon that works, and people are pretty negotiable. For your laundry take it 3 minutes up Jalan Padma to one of the laundry places that quite honestly you will want to bring home with you if only they fitted into your luggage.
Found some good places to eat on the shore at the West end of Jalan 66 (Double Six)..Zanzibar was our pick...but there are plenty of others. Ku De Ta is reckoned to be the spot to be at Sunset...if you need to be seen I guess it is. We preferred La Lucciola a little further up the coast. Shopping is all it is cracked up to be ..although I have to say every shop seems to sell the same range on Bintang T-shirts.
Uluwatu is worth the trip as is Tanah Lot (45 minutes to an hour away). The dive trip out on Bali Hai was also not bad ...as diving goes 6 or 7/10 but as a day for the family a 9/10.
