“Great location, friendly staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2010

Stayed at the Puri Raja 5 years ago, went back march 2010, since then rooms, pool area and beach restaurant have been updated. Really enjoyed our stay, only a small resort but everyone is so friendly, lot's of Aussies always telling you where to get a good bargain! Staff always stop to say hello! Rooms are clean and tidy, always fresh water on hand! Breakfast is great, not self serve like other resorts, you can order anything off the menu, eg: eggs, fresh juice, croissants. Beautiful view of the beach each morning! 2 pools to chose from, 1 with swim up bar. I liked the quieter one you could take your own beers. The best location lots of shops and restaurants close! Can't wait to go back, I love Bali!

Staying at this hotel resulted in us having mixed feelings. First of all, we knew it wasn't 5-star. Nor we had high expectations for the price we paid. But, after having just arrived from one of the nicest hotels we've ever stayed - at Ubud - see our separate review, this was a bit of a let-down.

Rooms are small and in need of a refurb. Everything a little run down. Hotel was 100% occupied during our stay. Main pool was a-jumpin'. For us, we were happier with the quiet of the the 2nd pool near reception.

Breakfasts, though, were pretty good and in a top location, just across from the beach. Overall, as a previous reviewer said, expect what you pay for.

As a return stayer i find this hotel fills all our needs. Have visited Bali 20 times so far and find Legian suits us. Just up the beach road (5 mins walk) is a load of beachside restaurants which serve excellent meals for around $6. With less than 60 rooms you may need to book 6 months in front to get your dates but if you are flexible they can fit you in. This hotel has mostly Australians staying, and we find that the beach pool has a real friendly feel in the afternoons as most people talk to each in the water. The only major fault is that they have introduced loud music around the beach pool in the afternoons from big P/a speakers which is not needed. The music coming from the swim up bar is quite sufficiant. Most people i asked found this to be quite offensive, but they will turn off if requested. Overall this hotel is excellant for value and handy for everything you could possibly need.

It's hard to say why we liked this hotel. We went for a 50th birthday celebration so there was a mix of age groups involved. We "liked" everything about the Puri Raja, the rooms were good the service was good and the atmosphere was good. All involved couldn't find fault with the hotel but it wasn't the highlight of our stay in Bali. Next time we go we would like to stay there. Special mention goes to Katuk at the pool bar!

My husband & I stayed here for 8 days in March. The location of the hotel is great with shops right at the front of the hotel, restaurants, massage places. The bathroom though is quite old and tiles mouldy. The bathroom on the downstairs rooms were much bigger than upstairs. Our toilet upstairs clogged up and you have to press the button for 10 seconds before it flushes. The beds were hard, we asked for a queen and it was actually two single beds pushed together. The bedsheets looked old & wasn't big enough for the bed. The first night I was there, I had a several insect bites on my legs, they didn't look like mosquito bites, more like ticks or fleas. It may have been from the spare pillow which was in the closet. That didn't give me a good impression.
The hotel also seemed quite short staffed, there was no porter to help us carry the baggage up the stairs from the entrance, there were only 2 staff at reception & they didn't explain anything about the hotel, like what time breakfast is, what time the pool is open til and services. So again I didn't get a good first impression.
The hotel ground was pretty though.
The staff in the restaurant & pool were lovely though and we were looked after. Breakfast was average but the location was great overlooking the beach.
The pool water was at times like bath water, it was too warm and didn't help much in the heat. But the pool bar was great and was always buzzing with people.
My husband though seemed to like the place, so maybe it depends on what you're looking for. Overall, I don't know whether I'd stay there again.

We have just arrived home from a 5 night stay at the Puri Raja and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It was excellent value for money and the rooms were neat and clean with fantastic airconditioning! The staff were all very friendly and helpful and the massages to die for and so cheap!!
The restaurant was average for the price but it didn't bother us as there were so many other great places to eat around Legian. The breakfasts were great once we worked out we could actually order anything on the menu up to the value of our 'American Breakfast' voucher and they pretty much let you order anything you like on top of that too!
The location was superb with everything within walking distance and if not there was a million taxis driving past to take you wherever you wanted to go!
Cheap internet access, right on the beach and great swim up bar completed it for us.
We will definately be going back!
