Description: Bali Asli is located in Gelumpang village, near the town of Amlapura, the capital of Karangasem regency, in the North East of Bali. About 2 hours drive from the airport, and 30minutes from Candidasa village, and 30minutes from Amed village. Nestled in the foot hills of Mount Agung, Bali’s most sacred mountain, surrounded by rice fields, there is not a building to be seen. Bali Asli promotes Balinese cuisine and culture without exploiting it or it’s people. We embrace our community, supporting those who fish, farm and forage in the near by fields, ocean and jungle. Our menu offers authentic Balinese food using a traditional Balinese style kitchen, cooking on wood-fired, mud brick stoves, allowing the real flavours of Bali to shine. Most of our ingredients are either grown in our garden, in our neighbour’s garden or purchased from the local market The cooking school runs unique classes themed on “a day in the life of...” every class includes an adventure into local areas off the beaten track. Weather it is learning how to plant rice or plough with a cow, fishing in a jukung canoe and cooking on an open fire or making cocktails from cashew nut wine, our students always leave with fond memories and new skills to experiment with when they get home.

“Great!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 22, 2013

Great location with fantastic view at the rice fields.
We had a nice lunch after a 3 hr rice field hike. Excellent local food with options for tasting platters. Really loved all homemade drinks as well. Some juice with snake skin fruit and fresh ginger beer...

“A must do!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2013

Change your itinerary. Make sure any trip to Bali includes a trip to Bali Asli.

One reason is the landscape. The sort you see only in Balinese paintings
Another is the welcome, the staff and welcome drink and the ambience make you feel right at home

Lastly was the food. The set platter allowed us to try 6 balinese dishes plus crackers, soup, desert and tea for 195,000 RPH. Fish, chicken, pork and a lot of veggie. Loved it

It takes some fining it is above Amlipura, turn right at the cemetery if coming from the south. PLan a day trip around it you won't be disappointed

“Amazing find!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2013

While staying at Bayshore Villas in Candi Dasar we were advised to go to Bali Asli. What a great find! It has the most beautiful outlook, looking over the lush valley and Mt Agung. The owner Stephanie was so lovely and came around and spoke to everyone eating there. The food was absolutely beautiful and so reasonable. (It actually cost more to get there ) We began with a welcoming drink which was so refreshing and tasty with beautiful poached selak. Onto the menu. The menu changes daily, depending on what is bought at the market. We had a beautiful papaya, coconut and cucumber salad followed by a gorgeous organic chicken poached in coconut cream. Delicious. The drinks menu is quite lovely too and thoroughly recommend the Lime & Ginger soda. they also have some very interesting beers. Our meal was so good we went back with friends 2 days later and once again the meal was outstanding, from the complimentary drink, crackers and food.
This time the standout dish was the grilled fish with Bali spices....amazing!!!
Our only regret is that we did not do the cooking course. We definitely will on our next visit to Bali.
