“Best restaurant in Towson”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2012

I am not a big fan of Italian, but this is the hand-down best restaurant in Towson. Great ambience, outdoors seating is nice, indoor one less. Service is great, and the food! Try the grilled calamari!

“Fine Dining in Towson”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2012

I have eaten here several times, most recently on May 6, 2012. The owner, servers, and bar tenders are gracious. The ambiance is great, whether at the bar, one of the dining rooms, or on the deck. The wine list is extensive and also fairly expensive, but not more than a downtown restaurant. I really, really want to like is place but the food is often a bit uneven. Orcecchiette with tuna was highly recommended. The tuna was rare but not really seared. The special strip steak was ordered medium rare but served well done. Shrimp over risotto was excellent! I have had the Putanesca in the past and it was very good. Veal Saltimbocca was quite average. Desserts, which they graciously comped, we're good, especially the tiramisu. The owner and server were quite apologetic about the steak, which they replaced and gave us a "to go" bag for. As I said, I really want to like this place. There is not much else in Towson as fine dining goes. Just be prepared for a bit of unevenness in the food.

“Very very Good”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2012

We went for the first time last night. Our very good waiter, John let us know it was happy hour and we ordered 2 glasses of very nice wine. He recommended the grilled Caesar salad and it was excellent. We had the Seafood Ravioli and another great "house" fish. Dessert was equally good and it was an excellent dining experience. It was expensive but worth it.

“Average Food at Above Average Prices”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2012

I was looking for a romantic dinner to celebrate a wedding anniversary and chose Cafe Troia in Towson.

Pros-- Beautifully decorated, upscale, attentive waiters, valet parking
Cons-- Food was just not that good, very expensive

We ordered the Ceasar Salad. It was heavily dressed and the lettuce was limp, store bought croutons and grated cheese, not shredded. I've had better Ceasars out of a bag. The waiter brought a few slices of bread to the table and it was cold, like he just took it out of the refrigerator. Plain olive oil was on the table for dipping, no spices or anything. My husband had the Crab cake dinner and it was good. The one crab cake came with a few roasted potato cubes and a small handful of green beans. It was not very much food. I ordered the Veal Saltimbocco, it was three thin slices of tender veal with cheese on top. There was no prosciutto that I could see or taste. Although the veal was good, the sauce was tasteless, basically browned flour and water. The dinner came with a handful of green beans. Everything is a la carte, our bill for 2 glasses of the least expensive wine, one Ceasar salad, and the 2 dinners, before tax and tip was $86.

The meal was disappointing and we won't go back.
