“Got to see the renovations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2012

I have visited this site many times in the past but not recently. This recent visit was delightful. A lot has been done to turn it into a must see local site.

“A Must See, and Free!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2012

Hampton National Historic Site includes a mansion, icehouse, creamery, overseer's house, and quarters of the enslaved and indentured servants. It is both beautiful and informative. The Georgian style mansion was built from 1783-1790 and in it are many of the family furniture from the various Ridgelys. The grounds are lovely, and include huge impressive trees. We especially liked the icehouse with its steep steps and forbidding pit. The tour with the docent held the attention of the 7 year old and 13 year old in our party. Easily accessible from route 695, this historic site should not be missed.

“A Christmas Visit Must”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2012

This is a beautiful estate with a very large collection of period furniture, different styles of furnitures, docents have wonderful stories to tell. Lovely when it is decorated at Christmas but also sometimes they have summer concerts. Must call to find out when.

“Hidden Gem of a National Site”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2012

Admission is free. There are docents at the farm house and guided tours of the mansion. Check the website for additional events. I've done the 3 hour walking tour including the farm house, gardens and mansion. I've attended "Manly Arts" day where we learned (hands on !!) how to do bayonet drills, sword fight on horseback and other things that men in the 1860s would have done.
