“The Griya - 'House of the Holy Man'”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2013

We stayed at villa #9 (2 bedrooms and nicely set up kithcen and living room with open access to pool area) with large outdoor pool & jaguzzi in Griya for three nights with our friends and absolutely loved it. Fantastic staff, fantastic food & drinks with very efficient and friendly service. Nice location in the hills with spectacular view to the sea and sunrise. From the hotel rooftop bar, excellent views to the sunset as well. Spa treatments were professional in a very nice set up and athmosphere but we missed testing the Finnish sauna and 'kiuas' even though going to sauna is almost like a religion in Finland where we come from. The design of the common areas and villas were done with nice local touch with modern functionality. Taste of luxury in authentic Balinese environment.

We visited The Griya spa in Amed twice. On the first occasion we had a delightful dinner overlooking the infinity pool, served as ever in Bali by the most delightful and attentive staff.
The entrance to the Griya is most imposing with marble steps leading up to the dining terrace and pool. The architecture resembles a long house with a very steeply pitched roof. The gardens were immaculate and we could see the private villas each with their own pools.
On our second visit we spent the afternoon by the pool, the scenery from the pool was breathtaking. We then had a massage which was very pleasant in a room that opened onto private terraces. The one bad note was the lack of luxurious showers after the massage, which rather spoiled our feeling of well being.
We then enjoyed excellent cocktails on the upper deck of the terrace watching the dusk deepening into night, and then another excellent dinner.
The young manager, Roma, was doing a great job in ironing out any problems, she also doubled as a taxi driver as the Griya has a pick up service from your hotels.

Room Tip: We did not stay but maybe next time, it is beautiful

I have been travelling to bali for so many years, mainly staying in Nusa Dua, Sanur, or Kuta with family, friends and as a couple.

However, a recent visit to Bali brought me to The Griya The Villas and Spas in Amed. I was so impressed by everything...from the warm welcome, courteous staff, the delicious food in Safka Restaurant...and as we checked into our Villa...we were greeted with the most beautiful night sky I have ever seen...the stars were shining, glittering covering the sky like I have never seen before. My whole family was mesmerised and we just sat outside on the lounge chairs enjoying nature's bounty.

Amed area was so peaceful, unpolluted and the nature was so untouched.

The rooms were spacious, the bathroom had natural lighting/air...and the beds comfortable...the smell of the hay from the roof was so aromatic, we all slept so well that night.

Waking up in the morning is not my family's forte, but we heard of Amed's famous sunrise...so we all set our alarms at 5 to watch the sunrise...and we were definitely not disappointed!...It was so beautiful and we took many pictures while enjoying together.

Breakfast was also very yummy...a good choice + big bonus of the view: infinity pool overlooking the endless sea.

We didn't get to try the spa, but next time we definitely will!

Thank you to all at The Griya

Room Tip: The Villas are designed in such a way that they have as much view of the sea as possible...!

We stayed at the Griya on the first half of our trip to Bali, looking for a beautiful place that was a bit out of the way and close to good snorkelling. The Griya was perhaps one of the most beautiful properties we have stayed in Bali. A three bedroom compound with a very pretty kitchen-dining-lounge building, all situated around an infinity pool looking out over the water and the sunrise every morning. Among the more "challenging" decisions we would have to make was whether to walk down the to the beach -- maybe 10+ minutes downhill -- closer to the Griya, or to venture a bit further away to go in to the water. (And the snorkelign right off the beach is great for the casual snorkeller!) The staff are very attentive and helpful and will arrange whatever is needed. The place is not cheap, though. We stayed in the biggest villa they had, and had a number of our meals at the Griya -- Not a complaint, as we didn't feel we overpayed, however you can stay in plenty of pretty places in Amed for less money. Suggestions include to bring your own snorkel gear or to rent it from one of the many guys on the beach. Otherwise, enjoy the space, the pool, the food, and the spa. One other point of clarity - the Griya is fairly far from many attractions in Bali. The trip from the airport in Seminyak was over 3 hours and the day trip we took to Besakih Temple (Pura Besakih) was at least a 2 hour drive. Worth it, but a bit far if you're not expecting it.

Thank you very much for staying at The Griya Villas and Spa, and your nice comments. We are so happy that you enjoyed our resort so much, and look forward to see you next time again.

Now that brand new toll road has been opened, it will reduce the traveling time to The Griya also at least by 30-40 minutes, so our guests can avoid most of the traffic jams of South Bali and enjoy the beautiful views of East Bali on the way to Amed

We are a German couple and have now spent our second holiday on Bali. Last time we stayed at the Santaibali in Amed, not far from the Griya (which did not exist back then). The Santaibali was already a wonderful little resort and our family loved it. We decided that this year we would stay a few nights at The Griya and we were not disappointed at all. We stayed at one of the villas which all have mountain and ocean view - sunrise included :-) The villas are balisese style, very nicely furnished and decorated. The best is the terrace with the infinity pool in front of every villa. Service is great, people are very helpful and the atmosphere is relaxed - it feels like staying with friends. There is nice beach with a pretty good snorkeling reef /diving area only 10min walk away, which we enjoyed very much. The most difficult part was leaving this great place...

this hotel has been just absolutely fantastic. a brand new, beautiful and spacious pool villa with fantastic views, a spectacular open-air bathroom... we are still lingering in memories of that hotel. although the others we've been to on that trip (the menjangan & puri wulandari) have been amazing too, just mentioning "the griya" still puts a smile on our faces

in such a place you don't want to leave the villa, so it comes in very handy that the food has free delivery to the room and the quality both of breakfast and dinner was worlds better than any 'room service' i ever had.

Room Tip: we've stayed at villa 1, which was beautiful but right next to the restaurant. at night no probl...

We spent 2 nights at the Griya Villas in oct. 2013. (honeymoon trip in Bali).
the Griya is the best place we stayed in.

Villas are new (opened on 12/12/2012). The whole team is fantastic.
Roma Sirait (operational manager) was really nice and helpful.

++: Luxury service in the villas (private inifinite pool with ocean view, good sound system). Good place for diving (Liberty Wreck in Tulamben). Motorcycle rental to visit the area.

--: on thing we did not really appreciate was the price we paid to the hotel for the shuttle + boat to Gili Islands. In the shuttle, we met other people (not from Griya) who paid less than half the price we paid, for the SAME service. I do agree that the Griya takes a commission on this, but this one was really huge, and the service was not better than others, even worse as we had to get up earlier as we were the first customers to jump on the shuttle bus.

That's why I put only 4/5 for the Griya !

Thank you very much for spending a part of your honeymoon at The Griya and we were very happy to hear that you ranked us as the best place where you stayed in Bali. We will deliver your nice comments to our staff and they are for sure happy to hear that.

Please accept our apologies for the pricing of the Gili boat transfer. We are usually adding a moderate fee on the top of the prices provided by other service providers. Unfortunately we were not aware that apparently there has been some bigger low season discounts and therefore our prices seemed to be out of the range. We will improve pricing follow-up with these companies, so that similar incidents don't happen again.

We look forward to welcome you again soon at The Griya Villas and Spa!
