We were looking forward to our day trip to Amed, away from the bustle of Seminyak and left early so we had plenty of time for snorkeling and a sail on one of the jukung’s. We arrived at The Grill mid afternoon, quite ravenous after all the physical activity and surveyed the menu. The first time we visited the restaurant was mid last year and it had just opened so we were delighted to see some old favorites (bbq pork ribs) plus a lot more new dishes. We were lucky to meet up with the charming owner/manager (recovering from a leg operation) who provided some recommendations - so different and all beautifully fresh and delicious. We started with beef tataki (seared slices of tenderloin with onion ponza – such a delicate flavor), grilled eggplant and feta pizza, and bbq whole prawns wrapped in pandanus leaf. This was followed by pork ribs (my husband says they were even better than last time), grilled cajun style mahi-mahi, and a garden salad full of organically grown vegetables. We had to try the coconut lime slice which was heavenly! Made on the grill cooks with the finesse of a great chef and the food was some of the best we have tried in Bali for the small price we paid. The staff is friendly and attentive and I loved the art pieces, both paintings and sculptures that adorned the walls. I couldn’t resist a visit to the shop next door (which wasn’t there last year) where I bought some wonderful hand crafted gifts. They now take credit cards which was so convenient. We loved our visit so much we have decided to come and stay next year.
