“Ideally situated on the beach but sitcom did not work enough”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2012

Nice cottages close to the beach
It is nice
No real swimming pool but ok for kids
Directly on the beach

Rooms are extremely disappointing but the semi outdoor bathroom that is nice

Service is terrible
Air con would not run or never enough to cool down the bungalow so night was warm

This is a very pleasant resort on a very pretty beach.

The Cottages are dotted around a beautiful garden. They are very comfortable with zircon and bathrooms open to the sky which I really like. There are cottages for couples and family ones, however as another reviewer said the family ones have all of the beds in one room, which does not give parents much privacy. We ended up taking two couples cottages for us and our two boys and that worked out well.

The resort is right on the beach with is good for swimming and snorkeling. It was a bit rocky just in front of the resort while we were there, but that was probably the season... it was only 30m or so to a full sang part. The resort also has a large pool which the boys lived in.

Snorkelling boat trips and massages can be arranged on the beach, and the resort is linked to a good scuba dive operator.

The food in the resort is good, but if you want variety there are a lot of alternatives within walking distance.

Room Tip: You get to enjoy the roosters from all of the rooms

It is brand new hotel. Staff is very friendly and ready to help. Indonesian food in the hotel restaurant was great and fresh fruit juices they serve are very good too. I liked concept of bathroom where you can see sky and where high walls protect your privacy. Hotel location is great to explore East Bali and see real Balinese life away from touristy places. Tirta Gangga and The Mother Temple of Besakih are about 1.5h drive from this hotel. There are also few nice dive-sites 10-15min by car from Hidden Paradise. Overall it is very good value for many for Hidden Paradise Cottages.

Top things I loved about Hidden Paradise: Our room had the most awesome bathroom I have ever experienced! It was outdoors, partly under roof, partly under the sky. There were two shower heads, one under a roof, and the other under the open sky, so if it rained while we were there we could have taken a hot shower in the cool rain at the same time. The outdoor bathtub was awesome. The room was air conditioned with a king-sized bed (and two twin beds). We splurged on the family room with the view of the pool. It was absolutely charming.
The breakfast was good, the pool was wonderful (with a waterfall). True, the beach left a little to be desired, but you could walk on it; and they did offer snorkeling trips, sunset cruises, fishing trips, etc. from the beach.
My husband and I had massages together in their gazebo by the beach both mornings, and they were wonderful. The sounds of the waves crashing while getting a massage was terrific.
What I most liked about Amed as a whole (including the gift shop at Hidden Paradise) was how I could go shopping and not get harrassed, hustled, pushed, or maniupated. The people in the neighbornhood were the most gentle, kind, dear people I met on our 27 days in Bali.

Room Tip: It was well worth the splurge to get a family room overlooking the pool just for the awesome bathroo...

(We are a family of five with three young kids; 4, 6, 8, for reference)
Amed is admittedly out of the way of most travelers, making this destination quiet and perfect for relaxing. HPC takes it up a notch. If only for the well-made cottages, I'd give it a three; secure doors and airtight bungalows allow the in-room AC units to do their work, and also keep out mosquitos. Tinted windows keep curious eyes from prying, while allowing inhabitants a view of the grounds. Since the smaller couple bungalows don't come with TWO AC units, or a stone tub, spring for it if you want largesse and romance. The outdoor bathroom in the rear of our bungalow had a western toilet with privacy wall, a luxurious shower and sink, pomace-framed mirror, massive stone tub...in a word, amazing. Free WiFi blankets the grounds.
The second good point for this place, the pool. Dappled sunlight filters through to this varying depth pool and poolside rocks allow for fun kid jumping. A pool-side shop rents snorkel gear and sells trinkets. The third awesome point, the restaurant. An included breakfast allows options for most. The open-air pavillion lets diners have an ocean view and is a most relaxing way to dine. Lunch and dinner options make for kid meal otpions and adult dining that can occupy guests for a good week before having to repeat. Local "Storm" Balinese beer is available, among other drinks. The fish is fresh and succulent.
The last awesome point, the ocean is RIGHT THERE. Rent some gear, walk down to the ocean and swim 1k to a coral reef, or get a boat ride (or car ride) to the Japanese shipwreck about 3K away and snorkel there.
In the four days we were there, we only left to go jogging and for a SCUBA trip (EuroDive is right down the street to the left).
Make sure you bring plenty of cash to Amed; no ATMs. If you never leave the hotel, you'll only spend money on gear rental or trinket purchases. The hotel takes credit cards.
The one reccommendatiton I would make would be for the hotel to divide the "family" bungalows for parental privacy, or make it easier for families to arrange bungalows for their kids. When we get back to Amed someday, we'll be staying here...

Went for 2 nights. Very reasonable at 400,000 RP a night(about $45 Canadian) including a full breakfast. Very comfortable room Beautiful settng with cottage like rooms amid beautiful landscaped gardens. Nice pool. Unfortunately the recent storms have washed away the beach in front of the hotel although you can still swim there (climb down over the sand bags) Went snorkelling which was very disappointng compared to last year. Much of the coral has been destroyed by the recent storms. The real problem although was all the garbage in the ocean-plastics bottles, bags, etc. Not sure whether this was a seasonal problem or not but if it contnues it will really damage this place as a popular snorkelling, scuba, spot.

We stayed here in july 2011, just for one week. nice location in the middle of nowhere, good and clean bungis with aircon and wifi, very nice and helpfull staff, breakfast is nothing special but ok. the restaurant is a little more expensive than others, but we found it was the tastiest in the area. pretty garden with the bungis in it, pool also fine. endless black sandy beach right in front, snorkeling very good.
maybe look for a mosquitonet. my girlfriend seemed to be the main target of the little vampires ;-).
over all a real hidden paradise, perfect place to slow down and relax. maybe nearby the authentic bali?
go there and enjoy ... and take care to the nature.
