“WOW!!!! A FANTATIC PARADISE”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2010

What a fantastic place, location, location, location!!! We spent 6 days at this paradise. The room was excellent, it smelled like frangipani's every time we walked into it & was always spotlessly clean.
The staff are excellent & couldn't help us enough. The grounds are very well kept & very clean. We ate all our meals at the restaurant, there is a good selection & very reasonably priced.
My hubby went diving ( did his advanced open water certificate, 1/4 of the price he would have paid in Australia). I lounged around the pool which was also sparkling clean. There were plenty of lounge beds around the pool, you didn't have to 'reserve' one early in the morning as in some resorts. In fact I never left the resort at all it was so good!
Sleeping was great, listening to the water gently lapping the shore, and it was so quiet at night, that sleeping was not a problem.
There were a few locals selling a bit of stuff & massages, but if you said no thanks, they actually left you alone, they were very friendly & chatted to you when they saw you around the pool.
The spa at the resort is to die for, their treatments are so cheap & they are very professional. Try the facial!!!
All in all, if ever I return to Bali it will only be to this place.
Just something to be aware of if you are an Aussie. Management told us (in an email & when we arrived) that we could pay our account with Aussie Dollars. When it came time to pay, they said they couldn't accept AU$. That is all we had, (we don't do credit) so they had to call a money changer to come to the resort & we didn't get a good rate of exchange. But we know for next time.

We stayed here for 4 nights at the end of May in Bungalow 6. This room is close to the dining, the pool and the beach. The room was spacious, had a mini refrigerator and a TV. However the view of the sea from this room is obstructed a little bit by some trees. There were cockroaches when we checked in but after that day we did not have this problem. The bathrooms are clean but there was dust behind the door of the bathroom and below the table in the bedroom. House keeping could improve. The staff are very friendly and nice although we did find one man at the dining area with a bit of an attitiude.
I tried the massage at the spa and it was very good. I also had a massage by one of the other ladies by the beach which was ok although she was sincere in her job. We went on a fishing trip on one of the local country boats (organised by a local we met on the beach). I would not reccomend it as you have to go out into the sea for an hour on an uncomfortable boat with water splashing over you through out and getting back is another hour. We also caught just one fish. However the same guy organised for us to go by boat to the Japanese shipwreck and coral gardens to snorkle which was worth going to although you can access both by land as well.
Coming to snorkeling and diving, we used adventurediversbali and found them to be excellent. We dived at the US Liberty Shipwreck, Jemluk dropoff and Amed dropoff. My 7 year old son did a snorkeling course with Ian (the owner of the dive shop) and got his snorkeling license which he is very proud of.
We snorkeled at the beach off the resort. The snorkeling is very good but entry is a bit difficult at low tide and also got bitten terribly by sea lice or whatever it was. It wasn't bad or anything but just starts itching for a bit and you're forced to get out of the water. The snorkeling at the Japanese ship wreck was also good but kind of crowded and visiblity was also not great.
The food at the retarurant is just OK. Breakfast was sufficient for us although it could get monotonous if you stayed there longer. We ate at a restaurant about 50 meters towards the left from the hotel gate. It was good here. We also tried the restaurant called Warung Pantai which is located on the right of the road as you enter Amed from Puri Wirata. Food here is excellent. We rented a motorbike. But you have to be very careful as the roads are windy, steep and narrow.
Overall we had a good time in Puri Wirata and Amed. I may want to try a different place if I visit Amed again.

We enjoyed a week-long stay at Puri Wirata in Amed, Bali in mid-May 2010. The resort is well equipped with a nice restaurant, excellent food and the dive shop and spa took very good care of us...all for a very modest price. We also had meals at Anda Amed, Gedes (not recom.) and Sails.

Staff were extremely helpful and friendly...especially Gede in the Dive shop and Kadek, an extremely capable masseuse.

Two dives sites that we particularly enjoyed were the Liberty wreck in Tulameben (!5" ride away) and the western part of Kubu reef. The Liberty provides an extremely complex micro-environment close to shore and at a relatively shallow depth. Coral and creatures both prolific.
