“Unique Camping Experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2014

After a scenic half an hour drive from Lonavla town towards the vicinity of the Pawna dam, you can reach the Rusticville campsite which provides accommodation in portable outdoor weatherproof tents. The place is best visited in groups - friends or family. It is also suitable for office offsite meets.

Check in check out time is scheduled from 4 PM to 12 noon next day. In between they provide evening tea/coffee on arrival, veg and non veg DIY barbeque including raw ingredients and a coal outdoor barbeque, a basic dinner and breakfast next morning consisting of typical Maharashtrian fare like poha, upma, misal pav etc. You can carry your own liquor and cold drinks. If you want the same from the camp, the staff need to be intimated earlier. They will even provide an icebox on demand. Carry your own mineral water if you are finicky about the water you drink.
The toilet block is clean, but the number of toilets should be increased. No real facility for bathing.

There are facilities for a variety of outdoor games - cricket, badminton, volleyball, archery and kite flying. You can ask for a bonfire to be lit at night. Some of the guests also enjoyed lighting chinese lamps at night.

Situated at the foot of the Tikona fort with a part of the Pawna reservoir on one side, the campsite provides the best of scenic beauty with the outdoor activities you want to enjoy. An early morning Trek up the Tikona fort will be an icing on the cake. The trek is fairly easy. If you are not the active sort, curl up with a book or your ipod on many of the hammocks provided, with the stars for company and watch the moon rise from beyond the hills.

During monsoon, the approach road to the campsite may not be suitable for vehicles. You will need to park at a distance from the site. Even during the dry season, vehicles with low GC need to be careful.

The camp is well managed and the staff takes good care of you. Overall a unique way to spend the weekend.

I had been to Rustic Ville with a group consisting of kids and my cousins. On arrival Mr. Kashinath introduced himself and showed us our way to the tents. But before that the approach road is a little rough (at least was when I went) and chances of your car hitting something on the underside is possible, so hatchbacks and sedans be careful. The tents itself are pretty compact and cozy, though we really didn't get in them till midnight. On arrival tea/coffee is served (you may need to carry your own snacks). After a couple of hours of outdoor gaming, the barbecue are set and the per head portions are quite adequate (we opted for veg, the typical marinated "Paneer", cauliflower, capsicum, onions, are a standard), but tasty.
The dinner spread is basic but delicious, very rural style cooking, so don't expect any continental fare here. After which the bonfire is set-up, though many here claim that it can go on till 4AM, we had difficulty finding anybody after 12 since the staff took off on their bikes, locking us inside, so if you want something from your car, you have to jump over.

The view in the morning was divine, but if you are a die-hard cleanliness freak, choose this day to skip your daily bathing ritual. The toilets though clean are only good for excrement and not bathing, especially you cant take a cold water bath on the cold winter morning. I believe some more toilets are under construction and may overcome that problem in the future. The breakfast, again basic, but sumptuous, consisted of "Kanda Pohe" and "Upma" with tea/coffee.

All in all, it is definitely an experience I would like to relive.

Room Tip: Take the tents facing the valley.

We just concluded our trip to Rusticville campgrounds near Lonavala. This was our first camping endeavour in India (have done it in california quite a few times before) and frankly we were not having a lot of expectations. To our surprise though, this turned out to be an experience way beyond my and my wife's expectations.

- the access to the campground is decent, not great but good
- the tents were pretty neatly organized
- the staff over there (Kashinathji) is very accomodating
- the BBQ was decent (veg)
- the dinner buffet was good
- the best part of our stay was the bonfire which went on until 4 AM in the morning
- the restrooms were very very clean with all the required toiletries
- the morning breakfast was excellent
- the location is also excellent - right below the tikona fort which is a pretty good trek

I would definitely recommend this camp ground, our group is definitely going there again!!

Just one thing though, if you are taking along kids, please ask much in advance for the sleeping bags, we struggled with that

This campsite is situated at the foot of the Tikona Fort at Pawna Village at Lonawala. The camp site is easily motorable accept in the paddy seasons post monsoon where you have to park your car around 200 metres away from the site .
The camp has a well managed staff who take care of all your needs at the site and are more than willing to help you in any way .
The total capacity of the camp is 20 tents , wherein each tent can accommodate 2 adults . The tents are not permanent in nature and are arranged as per the capacity for a particular day keeping rest of the area open for play and other activities .
Our package was from 4 pm in the evening to 12 in the noon which included a shared accomodation in a tent with hightea, choice of Veg/Non veg barbeque , dinner and breakfast .

Room Tip: All the tents are equally good , but be sure to pick up some extra blankets as the site being open o...

I went to this place on 30th and 31st December. I wanted a change from normal and it sure was very different. Initially I was a bit sceptical about staying in tents but it was a wonderful experience. This place is at the base of the Tikona fort. The fort stands tall behind you and the tents are overlooking a lake which makes a wonderful site. The tents are not bad at all, and they provide sleeping bags and pillows. You can take an extra blanket if it’s a cold night. They arrange a barbeque, a personal bonfire. Mr Vishal, who manages everything has done a commendable job. He has taken a lot of effort to make this thing work. I was with a goup of friends and Vishal personally looked after the needs of everyone. Overall a great experience

The only con I think is the toilet block. That could have been better. The Bathrooms need to be worked upon too.

We were 2 couples & did our New Years up here! Though we got there late, we had an awesome time thanks to Vaibhav & his brother Ankit! Tents are good condition, bbq is superb, experience of sleeping under the stars & moon is amazing, I would suggest this place for anyone ib search of peace & tranquility!

Cons: The food could have been better!

Great team in place and the campsite is good too but it's not "wilderness" as advertised. Need to improve on the environmental front - lots of waste due to foil containers for bbq and mineral water bottles.
Also website pics and actual campsite were different. Wasn't as green when we visited.

Overall: Would recommend it, Vaibhav and his wife are VERY good hosts and really made the stay special for us.
