“Impressive monument - wonderful from the outside, great inside!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2012

Great architecture, wonderful engineering and unbelievable accoustics! One of the truly impressive structures that I have seen in India, looks flawless and perfect! Great designs on the outside structure and although the inside looks humongous, it is a sight to behold and the whispering gallery on the 7th floor at the base of the dome is truly a must see and hear! One of my all-time favourites! Imagine, built in the 17th Century but full marks for its wonderful maintenance!

“Adil shahi's pride”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2012

A living example of the genius of Medieval India, which has stood the tests of time to bear testimony to the technique, art and architecture of those periods of history which surely added brilliant colours to our country's past. The splendid experience of having achieved something after climbing the huge monument is worth a feeling to be remembered life long added with soul stirring echoes to be heard inside the dome which makes our voices to reverberate more than any where in the whole world........an experienced which is a must at least once in a life time.

“A must see for its architecture”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2012

A huge dome with support pillars only at the sides is a sight to watch. Looking at the period in which it was built, it thrills you with the fact that we Indians always had a capability to build beautiful & amazing architecture; only to find it get ruined with time.
Though the beauty of the dome is its capability to echo even the whispers, but visitors (only Indians) keep howling and shouting at the top of their voice, not allowing you to enjoy the actual effect.
Tip: There are many stairs to be climbed, hence the place is not meant for people with Arthritis problem. Parents should take care of the kids as they are likely to trip while climbing or coming down.

“Beautiful, but lots of stairs.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2012

A beautiful building and an amazing museum. The stairs to the top are very steep and there are many. We had to laugh at the young Indians bounding up the stairs like it was flat ground while we huffed and puffed our way... and we are in pretty decent shape. The dome is quite interesting, but be ready for lots of children and young adults shouting, screaming, whistling and singing to hear the very strong echoes.

Be sure to visit the museum in front. It costs extra, but has some very nice sculpture and carving and is well worth a look.

“Noisiest Place on the Planet”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2012

Brilliant sight, a must-see, blah blah blah but please remember that it is in Bijapur and that the town itself is not much to write home about. Gol Gumbaz is an enormous building with a spectacular dome, apparently second only to the one in the Vatican. One of the ways it is advertised is that a whisper is amplified ten fold inside the dome. This, ironically, leads hordes of families to scream at the top of their lungs inside the dome which lead me to conclude that this must easily be one of the nosiest places on the planet. The walk up the stairs to the top is well worth it by the way cause then you get to actually see the marvelous dome from close by. It is a little scary though and if vertigo and the odd sensation of wanting to jump to your death at funny heights with little to no railing is your thing give it some thought beforehand. I thought it was quite 'dizzying'.
