“Majestic”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2011

Visit it early to get a good feel of the echo. Later in the day with lots of visitors it is not possible to get a quiet time in the whispering hall.

The museum as well closed by 5 PM. Make it a note to visit the museum as well.

“Outstanding and well worth one uncomfortable night.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2011

Hugely impressive, surrounded by large peaceful clean garden,
This is off the beaten track and we were the only foreign tourists and we given a happy warm welcome by Indian tourists. Go early as youngsters love to creat an echoing din under the "whispering " dome. Gives a great insight to the development and progression of the Mughal Empire. If we revisited we would research option for hotels within reasonable driving distance. This is well worth the great effort it takes to reach this "off the track" town. Other sites in the town also more than worth this visit.

“Amazing Remains of History - The Golgumbaz”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 10, 2008

Recently we travelled all our way from the south of Tamilnadu to the North of Karnataka, Bijapur a wonderland of Architecture belonging to Adil Shah dynasty of the Historic times. It was a less than a little 24 hour journey. We travelled from Coimbatore till Bangalore by a Train as an overnight journey and boarded the Intercity Jan Shatabdi express that runs between Bnagalore and Hubli. From Hubli, we took a KSRTC (Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation Bus), which a took a time of 5 hours to reach Bijapur.

We stayed at Hotel Madhura on Station Road. After participating in an academic gathering, we were taken for a local site seeing to the GOLGUMBAZ. This is a fort and a mosque like structure built by Adil Shah, the ruler of Bijapur during the Historic times. This was the place, which was exclusively meant for entertainment of the emperor, who loved music and the fort and monument was an exclusive HOME THEATRE designed and built by Architects of those days. I just can't express the wonder by words, as everyone who gets a chance to visit Bijapur should not miss visiting this place. The arrangement is like this. In the main chamber hall, there is a place for the throne and seating of the Maharaj. Vocal performers would go to the top of the Golgumbaz and perform their concert, which echoes inside the Hall seven times creating a Magical Home theatre effect. Again, the outer entrance is directly facing to the top of the Gumbaz which has one door like opening, which will learly absorb even a pin drop and would alert the Emperor and others inside the Hall. I have felt this amazing experience and recommend all lovers of History and Music to visit this place. This Golgumbaz is just Magic.

We returned back from Bijapur by the Basava Express which runs between Bijapur and Bangalore directly, one thing is that it goes uptill Sholapur and returns back to Bangalore. Railway authorities conveyed that a direct train between Bangalore and Bijapur in the shortest distance is on the cards and will begin its service shortly.
