“Great Place to relax”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2009

Thanks Mercy for a wonderful time. Wish we could have stayed longer. You were a great hostess that made us feel so welcome and so much at home. The rooms were bright clean and very comfortable. The traditional Puttu with curry for breakfast was delicious. Thanks again for making our stay so pleasant.
It was so surreal seeing the hundreds of fire flies at night in the palm trees. Hope to see you next time we are in India

This is a lovely relaxing place to stay right on the edge of the backwaters. The outdoor shower and toilet was an interesting experience! It would have been even better if air conditioning was available. We had lovely food in the restaurant, but don't expect a menu, you get whatevers available.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time in the Palm Grove. It is located a couple of kilometers out of town, but there are plenty of rickshaws passing along the road to bring you into town or to other locations around if required. The Palm Grove is located right where the main canal meets the lake, it's just gorgeous.
The cottages are private and private and the whole place is lovely, quiet and relaxing. The rooms are simple and clean. The bathrooms are clean and nice, and the outdoor showers are an added feature and we used the showers during the day to cool off as there was no pool.
We went on a backwater trip with Mr. Prasenan who works in the restaurant. It was a great way to see the backwaters, and the local village life. We decided the big house boats were not how we wanted to see the backwaters, and were very happy that we made this decision.
The restaurants in the local 5 stars are really nice, and we travelled across to the Raheem Residence beside the beach for a lovely (expensive by local standards) meal.
Alappuzha is a lovely town, well worth a visit; much nicer than Fort Kochin.

My partner and I stayed at Palm Grove for 2 nights so that we could see the backwaters. They only have 5 cottages and we could only get one without ac for 1500 rupees. It was so hot that the fan was of no help, but according to another guest having AC was not so different! The open air bathrooms are a treat, and there is a TV in the room which helps as it can be a bit quiet.
The resort is in the middle of nowhere in terms of nearby village life but there are small shack shops and a nice 5 star down the road if you want to use their pool - for an extortionate price (remember to bargin!).
The hotel has a small menu of varied Indian dishes but it is pretty basic stuff and nothing special.
I was sick for my 2 days there and they were very good in looking after me and helping me find the doctors etc. They also organised an overnight house boat for us which was 4000 without ac, but we did see much better boats on our travels!!
It was a lovley place but a bit boring for me and too hot with no pool.

We stayed here for 3 days during our trip, and it was very hard to leave. The accommodation was excellent - we had a large air-conditioned chalet overlooking the lake. The owners were very friendly and Suresh, who runs the resort day to day, was helpful and a good guide too. Nothing was too much trouble.
We ate at the restaurant there and the food was wonderful.

I'd recommend asking them to organise a houseboat or a backwater trip as there is a guide on site, and the boats they organised for other guests were new and of good quality (in a pretty mixed market).

The only downside is if you are in a semi-detached chalet, as noise from neighbours can be rather intrusive.

We'd certainly book here again

We stayed at the Palmgrove lake resort for three nights during our trip to Kerala. We stayed in one of the delux cottages and had a fantastic time. The cottage was spacious and clean with a lovely view over the backwaters. The food was fantastic and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful.
