4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2013

This Resort is located on the lake of alleppey. The location of this property is very nice. in the eveing time from the garden we saw many house boats in the lake. The services are average and but food is good. The rooms are also neat and clean. the lake in front of the resort was clean and nice.

Was there only for a night, however realized that its best for an extended stay with relaxation on your itinerary. Experience starts with taking a boat to the hotel - make sure you call upfront to have the boat ready - was not happy with a 30 minute wait at the jetty office. Nice cottages facing the water, wooden interiors, spacious, good clean bathrooms and A/C - needed when traveling during warmer seasons. Food was OK - nothing special to mention. The activities include swimming, pottery, gym, massage spa. Did not visit any since the duration was short. The sunset cruise in backwaters was amazing (it was complementary as well!). Overall a nicely maintained property.

Room Tip: Was in Kerala cottage with A/C - nice for couple with small kid.

It was on a holiday, with family we checked in at Lake Place.

The rooms are neat and very spacious and had all the modern facilities. Its a well maintained property with more than 20 cottages ,I remember So.

The restaurant and the food was up to the Mark.

The swimming pool was also good ,the layout of the pool is appreciated.

Most disgusting thing was the Boat Jetty ,where we have started our journey to the resort, the canal was filled with dirt and plastic bottles. Its not the problem of the resort but the resort people and others could have taken the initiative to clean the canal to maintain its cleanliness .

Sometimes i feel in God's Own Country ,god behaves in mysterious ways.

It started with our journey from Munnar on road to Alleppey on 1st Jan.'13 but

when we entered Alleppey, we got a special ferry taking us through a beautiful backwater to our resort but on the way when we saw our palace from a distance, it was really beautiful and we found ourselves in totally different environment where we thought we were going to enter a sea if we go little away but after opening a Google Map i found its a back water.. Voodoo.

We have travelled in the Month of Jan.'13 and we stayed for two nights. It was truely wonderful. Esp. the location, the rooms. We have booked water villa room. When we arrived they took 20 mins to check in due to first week of Jan.'13 season. We got a buggy car to reach our room.

When we entered our villa i said "Ohhhhhhh Myyyyyyy Goddddddd!!!!" It was really amazing and elegant even the bathroom were completely unique in design. Each and every things were at place like Shaving Kit, Toothbrushes, Toothpastes, Shower Gel, etc. etc. What we liked the most was "Sunset Cruise" through the Back water which is complimentary.

In two days, At 7.30pm - we saw three Kerala Special dances Kuchhipuddi, Mohiniattam, etc. It was a splendid experience. The only regret was that despite of all such beautiful traditional programs available as a complimentary we did not find more than 8 to 10 spectators(incl. our family and two foreign couple) for such a beautiful show.

"Houseboat" we did not stay as we got to know about Mosquitto trouble in the back water which is not a clean water. Esp. in the evening. I might be wrong but that's what we overheard from couple of travellers whom we met on the way. Yes, I did read good reviews about the houseboat just now which was great. I will call it a 50:50.

"WiFi" gets a real great range near the swimming pool at a real real Awesome Speed.. Amazing and yes it is again unbelievably complimentary.

Food was very good but not excellent but yes the "Service" Level needs improvement Either they should increase the number of staff or should train their Staff in terms of behaviour and shall recruit those who can treat each guest like a family members with a never ending smile on the face. Yes, there was a guy called "Shiva" who was one of those but I dont remember any other person's name who match a good level of hospitality.

Hope that the Lake Palace Management will take this Service Level issues and Staff Recruitment and Training Seriously.

We met some nice couples who were foreigners and had some nice interactions.

It was overall a beautiful stay but will rethink of going if I get to see some good reviews.

Room Tip: Water Villa and above rooms are truely worth staying in.

lake palace is a beautiful resort, only if you look at it from the outside, however the indide gives you a very different story. The rooms are not at all appealing, with water and AC problems. the food and staff are the same.....they both taste and behave in the same manner.....cold and indifferent, expect for one of the senior managers, Mr Arjun Kohli, who was a welcome change in between so many arrogant people who did not respond or care, How ever this gentleman, despite the fact the he was a senior manager ran around from front office to the restaurant making sure that the we and the other guests were comfortable. I too belong to a hotel line and a person like him is an asset to Lake palace. If we recommend a stay at that hotel to any of our friends, it will be because this gentleman made up for so many shortcomings.

Room Tip: Take rooms in the new constructed wing.....still better than the other rooms

This is a splendid venue for a relaxing break, in our six member’s small group in 2 days in lake palace completely ruined by incompetent staff and totally ineffectual management. Sad, because investment in even a small amount of middle rank personnel training could turn the place round within days. The rooms / villa are spread out in a complex with buggies being provided to ferry guests about. Calls for collection from accommodation are either ignored (no answer from Reception|) or a failure to respond to the request, Front office is like unprofessional so many of them but don’t have any idea, we ask about some activities and about town but nobody don’t know about that proper things after we checkout from lake palace we came to know There in city there was a Beautiful museum in city only some itself and continual reassurance that the buggy is "on the way.". This can lead to inconvenience (at best) or serious disruption (at worst) when transfer to an airport is needed. Attempts to take matters up with The Duty Manager is good person and very professional in his limit were met with an explanation to the effect that he was still in bed. The General Manager seemingly turns up as soon after 09.30 as convenient to him, leaving the entire operation leaderless for long periods at a time. His party piece is to apologise profusely and present the disgruntled guest with a box of local spices. He needs to be seconded to somewhere less demanding, as an absolute priority.
Food is very good especially western food and North Indian. food presentation is good (Butter chicken and chicken biriyany is excellent)Break fast spread is good Dessert need more care apple pie and brownie which we had was not satisfied in dinner buffet is good food was excellent but salad you have to take care,t service is not even satisfied they must learn more and more about Hospitality and professionalism even some time there is no waiting staff to attend us only supervisors they are not bothered about what Happening there
Ultimately one of the best property without professional management and staff so they must start to implement Training in all Department
In our next Trip we hope Lake Palace Resort will be a new face of Hospitality

Room Tip: New premium villas

Stayed for one night on Lake Palace's houseboat called Maharani;
I am speechless and find a lack of words to describe our stay at the houseboat.
dazzling beauty, elegant interiors, maximum cleanliness, excellent food, efficient staff, and the most courteous ever waiter (Mr. Rupesh), marvelous bathrooms, and delightful service.
This is one thing not to be missed while in Kerala. Our travel agent Mr Gokul from Innovate Holidays at Abids in Hyderabad advised us to take a houseboat belonging to a resort though it cost us a bit more than the other houseboats belonging to other public services because the houseboat from a resort would dock at a private quiet place for the night instead of the local public docking area at which other public houseboats would dock along with a dozen other houseboats at an area that would be no less than a fish market, and sure enough, our houseboat Maharani docked at a real quiet place where we were the only other boat with one more in front of us, and i can't begin to tell how thankful I am to Mr. Gokul.
the meals served on the houseboat were delicious and served with utmost care.
A not-to-be-missed experience while one is in Kerala- houseboat from Lake Palace Resort Alleppey.

Room Tip: Choose a houseboat with an upper deck. The view is extravagant.
