“Ancient temple of Lord Sri Krishna”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2013

Situated in Ambalapuzha, this temple is a traditional Kerala temple. It is quite ancient but totally spacious and it is clean and well maintained. Famous for its pal payasam prasadam. It has to be booked 2 days in advance if you require a large quantity. On the spot also you can get a box of payasam per head for 50 rupees;this is at 12pm. It is said that Lord Guruvayoorappan's Deity was protected from Tipu Sultan's attack by installing the Deity here temporarily. So the belief is that the Lord of Guruvayoor visits this temple every day to accept the payasam offering and hence the special taste of the payasam.

“Very Interesting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2013

This is one of the few temples in Kerala that Non-Hindus can visit in its entirity - You can even go into the shrine (but no photos inside) - The place is beautiful and well worth a visit for those who want to understand the local culture.

“Ambalapuzha Sree Krishna Temple”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2013

This is an ancient temple situated in Ambalapuzha. It has a noteworthy and awe inspiring story behind the position of the deity. The temple offers peace and tranquility to all those who step into the the temples inner sanctum. The payasm's fame and glory spreads far and wide. The architectural grandeur, especially those related to woodwork in the Koothambalam is worth seeing. There is a huge pond, the ambalakulam, which is well maintained. Right outside one of the entrances, there is tribute to Kunjan Nambiar, the famous creator of Ottamthullal, a form of satire poetry. Even today the temple offers a visual treat of the ancient traditions that are long forgotten.

Ambalapuzha is about 15 Km from Alappuzha and a very popular hindu religious establishment. This is a Krishna temple and is famous for its Palpayasam ( milk khir). The temple and the surroundings have some very good architechtural features.
