Hi there,
we were family of 4 adult n 1 child n had evening nothing to do with. so just checked with tour guide n he suggested this gentelman. office was small but had 2 trip-advisor printout, which was impressive. so decided to give a shot for 3 hrs of drive. by 600 inr per hr, 2k is ok-ok amount for experience that we've had.
started with smelly small water lane , but then joined to nehru statue. though lake needs a big cleaning, backwater drive experience was nice. owner accomponied till few distance, explaining the details and trying to sell idea of 2 nights package. but we're in mood of sight seeing.
taken shikara kind-of boat, which was just renovated. so was good exp.
started by 4pm, was geting dark by 6:15pm. so for 45 min's, was in dark gaze.

for short tour, recommendd to start early in the day.

Had a good exprerience with my stay at coco houseboats, the stay was comfortable and the food was good. The houseboatis in slight need of renovation, but otherwise the amenities arefine.

Make sure you take mosquito repellent with you because no matter what, you will end up amongst the insects after dusk.

Duration : 29/September/2012 to 30/September/2012 - 2days & 1 night.
Value for money : Average - 3 / 5
Staff Experience : Average - 3 / 5
Overall Rating : Average - 3 / 5

This was my first time visit to Alleppey and Coco Houseboat. Overall I stayed in Alleppey in 4 days and had a great time. The Back water experience, scenic beauty was simply awesome experience. You have to visit Alleppey once in a life time and spend one day in a Houseboat atleast.. Find Coco houseboat office was not difficult, the staff guided me nicely. However, the houseboat is a few kms away from their office & you have to catch an Auto to get there. This is not organized by the staff and you have to pay the fair from your end, not a big deal though. However, they could have provided transportation. You pay everything upfront and blindly go to a houseboat which you have not seen. We booked a single room houseboat, there are 2 staffs in the houseboat, A cook and a Driver. The food was not that great, when there is a dedicated cook on board the staff has to make sure that he knows to cook. Also forget some sort of Guidance help from these guys as they do not speak English, This is not a big issue but these guys would have spent their lifetime with tourists and they could have done some home work on their English.

The room was neat, Yes they do stop somewhere in between and force us for massage, buy fish etc but I did not opt for those. The boat comes to a stand still at 6pm somewhere near a paddy fields, nothing much you can do there other than going to your room and sleeping the rest of the day. If you keep the boat nets open you are welcoming the nature to enter you houseboat, all kind of insects with a HD National Geographic experience. However, we closed the nets in time. I could see lot of houseboats which were much better than this during our journey & I think we could have afforded one at the price we paid here. The boat from exterior doesn't look well maintained.

Alleppey Back waters is a lovely experience but this review is about the house boat where I stayed. Nothing great about the houseboat except the view of the nature and the Back water experience, lot of areas where there is need for improvement in the coco houseboat. The check out time is at 9am the next day, it could have been 11 keeping in mind that the check in timings is 12.

Things that I liked :
1) Back Waters.
2) Nature, Location.
The above is not owned by coco houseboat though.

Things that I did not like :
1) Check out time.
2) Staffs lack of Basic English knowledge.
3) Transportation from their office to the boat.

I would recommend anyone to stay in this House boat, but before you do that check for better options. I probably would avoid coco houseboat if I visit Alleppey again in the future.

Room Tip: Do not go outside the rooms after 7pm..

Our Coco overnight houseboat trip was a great letdown. Most of the time the view was only of dozens of other houseboats. Overnight we moored beside an all-night construction site. Food prep area was scary dirty, We saw very little countryside. We only travelled a few miles. Shower in bathroom would not drain properly. Staff-controlled room air conditioner started at 9:00 p.m. at 28 deg and went down to 18 deg by 4:00 a.m. The staff made a mad dash in the morning to get breakfast served and get back to port. What could have been a romantic trip was very much less that that. Our 8-person group spent way too much time talking about what was wrong this the excursion. I strongly suggest another houseboat operator and ask a LOT of questions before signing up.

My husband and I got sick a day before our originally scheduled houseboat was due to depart, so we had to rearrange our plans and got a Coco houseboat last-minute. Despite the strong recommendations from our travel agent and the great reviews of Coco houseboats, our trip was not so good. We had the one-bedroom Ecoboat, which had an article posted a few months prior tacked to the wall about how great the boat was, but we didn't have that experience. "Eco" does not have to mean "dirty." The floors were filthy (unmopped and very old), the boat didn't operate without a screwdriver stuck into the side of the steering wheel, the chairs upstairs were broken, and every one of the dozens of boats we passed looked nicer. Our cook spoke no English (which was a shame because we wanted to communicate to him that we weren't eating much due to just having been sick but weren't able to), and our captain spoke very little English. We enjoyed seeing village life along the backwaters but the boat was not up to snuff. One highlight was the man at the main office who was very helpful when I got sick before the cruise, but his English unfortunately didn't reflect that our two-man crew wouldn't speak English. I'm not usually much of a complainer, but I really feel everyone should know not to book "Ecoboat." We had two twin beds, and there was no top sheet plus just one small blanket to cover both beds. Made for a tough night's sleep.

Room Tip: Don't book Ecoboat -- it's old and dirty!

We stayed on this houseboat for one evening after researching companies online and booking via email. The company was very helpful at their office and they arranged to pick us up from our hotel and take us straight to our houseboat the next day. The boat was lovely and the crew (3 men in total) were very friendly and helpful. We spent the afternoon sailing around the backwaters before mooring up at 6pm next to other Coco houseboats. Our only real complaint was that we moored to close to other boats who were playing RnB music loudly when we were trying to enjoy a peaceful and relaxing experience. We felt as two female travellers that the day was enough and there was no need for us to stay overnight on the boat as there wasn't much to do or see after the boat had moored up apart from read and sleep. the food on the boat was lovely and traditional Kerelan food. We would reccommend Coco houseboats to other travellers and especially to couples who are looking to see the backwaters and enjoy a romantic evening away.

Room Tip: If you are travelling with friends I would reccommend doing a day tour rather than an overnight stay...
