We booked 4 rooms for 2 days online via website of the resort. After reaching the resort on 26th Dec 2013, we were told that the resort was not having any information about our booking. Actually the owner allotted our rooms to some other at high price. After threat of police, he gave us two different rooms. No TV in rooms, poor house keeping. Only one caretaker for whole resort. Location of the resort is nice. Never book this resort or you better take written confirmation of your bookings.

After some initial confusion regarding our driver's accommodation, Joseph and his team excelled themselves in this quirky resort (leopard bed sheets add a touch of Africa to this little part of India!) relaxing on the veranda not long after our first cuppa, I was shocked to see an emu wander past the back gate. Added to the playful dogs and little aviary, Joseph clearly has a passion of animals! The food was amazing value and the short walk to the beach and small pool ideal, very happy to recommend this to would be travellers.

We booked a cottage here based on reviews posted. In short I am glad we did.

Location wise the place is few KM before Allepey. not on main road, so very peaceful all the time. Its better if you have your own car as for food and other things you'll need it. The place is somewhere between a hotel and a resort. Very nicely maintained.

We have been given the wooden cottage at the entrance and it was fantastic. Got two rooms for 4 people. plenty of space and very different inside. Overall we liked the place to stay.

Food was is a bit let down (it is good, just do not expect wonders) . There cook comes at fixed time and you are suppose to inform him beforehand, which did not work with us and we ended up eating out most of the times. There are good options, though again you need a car to roam as you can not walk.

The owner, Mr Joseph is a great guy and took time to personally meet us even though he was occupied with a family function. His idea to take a shikara instead of houseboat as it can go to canals where bigger boat can not was both brilliant and money saving.

Overall, good place but make sure you have a vehicle.

How can I truly describe such a special time at this place? Joseph, the owner, worldly and well travelled, has now settled into being the consummate host. I felt like I was one of his dearest friends and nothing was a problem for him or anyone else taking care of our needs. One of the special experiences was the ‘salon’ where we had pre-dinner drinks and conversation with such interesting people including a movie director. The grounds are beautiful and relaxed. The meals absolutely mouth watering and true to Kerala cuisine.
Located behind the property the Arabian Sea awaits with the stunningly white sands of Kattoor (Secret) Beach. A must see while there. Between the bungalows and the beach we wanted for nothing else during our few days with Joseph and the crew. If you are looking for a truly down to earth, authentic, relaxing stay then this will prove to be a special experience. I was initiated into some new thinking while here and I will be forever that little bit richer.

Room Tip: All rooms quiet.

Stayed from 27th Nov to 30th Nov 2011. Recommended by a friend. Happy to go by it. 12 kms from the railway station, away from the maddening city. Beautiful 2 acre ancestral property.Tastefully done by Joseph the woner. A man of the world and good taste. Lot of space inside to move around. A swimming pool. Great food churned out from the kitchen. Luv the staff. So caring especially Anthony - Man friday and Lali the cook.He has a beach shack on the beach behind his property. Good place to enjoy the day and evening especially sun set time...Visit the music room where u can listen to your favourite music, watch movie dvd's etc, All in all the place is classy and great place to stay.

Room Tip: Rooms no 1 and 2.

We stayed here in October 2011 with our 5 year old granddaugter for just one night before moving on to Goa, it was a really lovely place and the staff were great, especially the very lsaid back Clement who looked after us and made us feel so welcome. the gardens are well kept, the rooms are large and comfortable and its a reasonably short walk to the beach. its very peaceful and well maintained with high standards of cleanliness. would reccomend it to others and would definately stay there again if I am lucky enough to visit kerala again. Clement - I have not forgotten my promise to send you some pics of Princess Maddi - will mail them to you as soon as I get them loaded onto the PC, thanks for making our stay so happy and comfortable. jackie & Paul UK

Dear Jackie,

I was my privilege to play host to a 'princess' and her family. I am glad to have had the opportunity to meet such a lovely couple such as Paul and yourself. At Vallis Gardens every guest is a personal friend and that's the attitude that makes this the wonderful place that it is; that is why we call this a 'piece of paradise'.

Thanks a ton for your kind words. I'll await the pic:)

Cheers,

Clemens
