“Royal experience, Lavish in every aspect”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2013

We were a family of 5 boarding this boat house from Alappuzha Rainbow jetty. To start with we were welcomed into this exclusive boat house where there were in total 2 rooms only for us. Starting with fresh tender coconut water, the food bandwagon never stopped. There were 4 attendants to serve us, one controlling the boat, two cooking and another serving food and taking care of us. The rooms were clean and air conditioned (We could use A/C only between 9pm to 6am as per our package)

The boat was in motion from the moment you board till 6pm after which it anchors in the backwaters and then again leaves for the jetty by 8am next morning to check out at 9am. The service was really good apart from a few hiccups like they had carried lesser mineral water than what we needed. The only other problem we had were with the bathrooms as the water pressure in pipes was painstakingly slow and also there is no ventilation in the bathrooms which makes it very clumsy.

Coming back to the food, they cook on board and serve you with their fixed menu which is deliciously cooked. On our request they also took us to a small island from where we could buy fresh, jumbo prawns which they also cooked for us to carry along.

I would say, do have this experience once at least to know how a king lives!!

We (two of us) spent one night in one of the River Escapes houseboats on the 18th of October. The boat was extremely well maintained and had all urban luxuries one may expect. All three crew members were very efficient, courteous, and made every possible effort to make our experience a special one. Kiran, the cook, cooked fresh crabs and lobsters for us in the evening. The bed room was small, but beautifully decorated. Most importantly, the A.C worked perfectly without any issues whatsoever. Thank you, River Escapes!!!

We went by houseboat Manimala (I hope spelling correct) on 26-10-2013, alongwith my family. We were almost on time at 12 noon for the start of the journey from Thekkady. Check-in was very smooth. We left thekkady at sharp 9 AM. Though it had three bedrooms, it was given for our family of 4 members. Two persons per bedroom..On entry we were given with tender coconut.
It started at 12 noon and went for a cruise till 1:30 pm. We already informed them of our food choice through our chauffeur. From 1:30 to 2:30 pm it parked for lunch. From 2:30 to 4 pm on cruise and from 4 to 5pm, canoeing the narrow water-ways, where on both sides we can rural life. Again from 5 to around 5:45 pm cruising and then parked on the banks.
Again it re-started at 8 am and 9 am we reached the starting point.
The crew ,members M/s. Venu, Sunil and cook Ajeesh were excellent in general and the cook in particular. The cook very genuine interest in our preference and cooked accordingly. Any amount of praise will be less.
The only dis-appointment is, in the morning before break-fast, it should have gone a while cruising. Also they did not go enough on vembanad lake. They probably just touched at one corner. More than that we went on periyar lake in thekkady on power-boat cruise.
Over-all it was an experience. We will come again during our next trip.

We, as a family of 4 members, booked 2 bed rooms houseboat. Check-In for boathouse was smooth and easy. We were introduced to the boat crew members and told about the timing of boathouse. The backsea water journey got relaxing and pleasant when we were served delicous food prepared, boat Chef Mr. Kiran. During our boat trip, he prepared dragon prawn which was purchased on the way. Evening boat trip had not only introduce the local life at bank of back sea water but also got an oppurtunity to interact with other boathouse occupant tourist. A small joint tour had really lighten the moment. I would definitely come back and use their hospitality again and also recommend other to experience for themselves.

Next day early morning, we got an involved into fishing activities. The fishing rods didn't look promising nevertheless we were able to catch 5 fishes which was cheery moment to celebrate in boat house.

During our stay, we were trouble by attached bathroom's foul smell and improperly unlocked door which trouble our sleep initially. Once the boat was on move, we use exhaust fan all time to get ride of smell and even boat crew offered room spray to reduce foul smell.
The crew were offering lots of information related to life and history about the backsea water.

Room Tip: Check AC working condition before accepting boathouse. Check for bathroom condition, they matter m...

We were on a family holiday and had booked a two bedroom houseboat. We were on the house boat for 21 hours, before alighting the boat all the family members pledged to come back again.
We were treated like kings during our stay.
The backwaters were simply breathtaking, it is an out of the world experience especially for outsiders.
The menu and quality of food served are top class.

This was my one of the best experience in Kerala. Boat was really clean and the staff was really helpful too. It was a completely different experience. It was so peaceful and relaxing. I wish I could spend one more night in this beautiful house boat. Chef prepared special food for us and it was simply amazing. Thanks for Everything!!!!

Booked a 24 hr cruise with River Escapes as part of an eleven night tour of Kerela.

We were not disappointed, the boat was spotless with a crew of two + a chef - for just us two.

Delicious food was prepared fresh for each meal in a small kitchen at the rear of the boat.

We cruised through the wider back waters on the River Escapes boat and transferred to a small canoe for a couple of hours around the narrower back waters.

Facinating to see the real Kerela back waters life - wonderful seats at the front of the boat next to the captain.

Unfortunately all good things come to an end and we had to leave the boat a little earlier than planned, shortly after breakfast , because of planned industrial action.

We heard some peoples cruises were cancelled due to the strikes so we felt very lucky our cruise went ahead, even though it was cut short.

Lots of wildlife and birds to see - King Fishers, Eagles, Water Snakes to name a few.....

RIVER ESCAPESLife on the backwaters has a different set of rules. First, since there are no roads we depend on canals, rivers and lakes for our travel routes. Most families have a boat of their own. Children often learn to swim at least as early as they learn to walk-you are likely to see kids splashing in the local equivalent of a playground. Their school buses float, as do the postal vessels delivering to homes here. Even the supermarket floats!River Escapes provides an experience of the backwaters of Kerala in a vessel whose history harkens back to the ancient rice trade of this region while also providing modern comforts. These vessels are designed to balance authenticity and innovation. They are engineered to balance comfort and environmental responsibility - we pioneered the technology now considered the gold standard of emissions reduction. Most importantly they are staffed by members of the local community who are proud to showcase their corner of God's Own Country to visitors.A unique set of waterways in our state's central region allows us to showcase three districts that represent the "rice bowl" of Kerala - all by boat. We started operating our houseboats in 2006 and are now the respected leader on the backwaters in terms of environmental responsibility, commitment to the communities where we bring visitors and in terms of guest satisfaction. ... more   less
