“Best in India hands down”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013 via mobile

Read the terrible reviewers to see the negative side. The reviewers are obviously delusional. And unfair, this is not a five star hotel so don't expect that, the spices and style of cooking is very unique and deserves better. They are probably expecting the same style of cooking they are used to eating.

I had five days in alleppey, and I ate here almost everything single meal no kidding, wanting to try all the dishes on the menu.

The food is very good value for money, very very very. I usually order two bread orders that cost about 7rs each, and two curries and my total is usually rs158.

Back home in singapore we have Indian food as we have a minority Indian population, I'm used to strong Indian taste and spices. The food at thaff is different from other Indian restaurants around India. The tastes of the ingredient seems to pop out. The aloo gobi is amazing, the cauliflower flavor is there, but does not overpower the overall taste.

The garlic chicken like what the other reviewer said was terrible is a variation of sweet sour chicken but with a stronger garlic tasting presence, it's really good if you are sick of curry.

The bread products arent that good though, very basic but it's really cheap at 5-7 rs. The beef masala has a strong taste but it's dry, so good to pair with another curry dish. Te chicken curry isnt the sour kind, with a very deep curry flavor instead. Chicken 65 are like chicken popcorns, nice with the accompanying onions and lime. If alu gobi is finished, get the alu masala, it's similar.

as for service, mistakes can be made at times anywhere in India, smile, shake your head and just politely get a change with a laugh. Get too aggressive and you will get the same in return. I had a wonderful time as I chatted up the cashiers and waiters. They even advised some dishes weren't good so dont order them. Which restaurant will actually do that ?

Don't bother to go to the air conditioned thaff across the road as the price is higher and the food didn't seem to taste as good. They had naan though, the other one didn't have naan.

My fav so far ?

Paratha (ask for hot ones)
Butter chicken (really divine and creamy)
Alu gobi

I'm going back there today to sample the famous biryani and maybe fish curry tonight!!

Enjoyed Thaff, we ate there several times while in Alleppey. Very clean, and they seem to use quality ingredients. A good selection. I'd recommend this restaurant.

“Just a regular local place”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 5, 2013

Stay away unless you are really interested in spicy and greasy non veg food served in not so clean and overcrowded (most of time) place. Prices are nominal but the acidity boiling in your stomach and rising up your throat continues to chase you for atleast next 30 hrs if you ate chicked biryani.
Avoidable.
