“Lovely place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2013

Nice big room and delicious food at a reasonable price. A woman I met at a hotel in Delhi gave me a card for the place with a big recommendation. No regrets. It's quiet and picturesque on the lagoon and pleasant respite from the hustle and bustle of India.

We spent our two last nights in Kerala in this backwater farm house and it was a perfect place to end our trip. The price of 2000 Rupees per night includes delicous Keralan food, staying in huge and clean rooms and a trip with a canoe to the backwaters. It is a great place to sit on the terrace read, relax and enjoy the tranquility there.

At first we didn't know exactly how long we wanted to stay in this guest house near the backwaters
We didn't want to go to ALLEPEY as we were looking for an ECO place not crowded and polluted
Stanley Wilson arranged the tour and told us " you must try ..."
We spent 7 days there ...
You can take the boat instead of took took to go from a place to another it's so disorientating
We met the family who manage this farm ... it's an extraordinary family ...
They are very helful and do their best to please you and to prupose you places to go or festivals to see
The view is very peaceful
The food is delicious and rooms very clean
A PLACE TO DISCOVER ...

We stayed for two nights in a bungalow and then had one night on a punted houseboat. The location was idyllic, with a view of the backwater from our sit out. Full board was included, a huge array of dishes, different at every meal and very tasty. We went for a couple of walks around the local houses and were taken on a sunset punted canoe trip for a couple of hours. Our room was big, with a comfy bed, but the blinds could have done with a clean and there was only cold water. On the last day we boarded the houseboat at 10.30, were
punted via several canals, with a shop stop for snacks if desired, to the bund by the Arabian Sea. We got off and a short walk brought us to the beach, with colourful fishing boats, and an opportunity for a paddle in the very warm water, but the sea looked too rough for further immersion! Back to the boat, and we set off again, then dropped anchor in the middle of a lake for lunch and a siesta, then back to the farmhouse where we moored up around 5pm then went out in our own little canoe for some exercise, then back for dinner a deux
and a night on the boat. Overall the experience was good. The only houseboats we saw all day were the two others from Backwater Farm. The location is unspoilt and having visited Alleppey afterwards, we were glad we had not had our houseboat experience there, where most boats are huge, have engines, AC and no doubt a price to match, not to mention the traffic. Having said that, a couple of negatives would be that the mattress was hard, the fan in the bedroom run on solar power so only really lasts half the night, and the bathroom is very basic with cold water and a shower that doesn't work above waist height, so we had a very perfunctory wash in the morning ... you just have to weigh up your priorities.

Had two nights here, one ashore and one aboard a boat. Beautifully peaceful as there are no motorised boats here at all, even the locals use paddles or poles for their canoes. The chalets are large and clean, and simply though sufficiently furnished, with large verandahs where you can sit and relax. The boats are quite basic, but comfortable. Food both afloat and ashore was absolutely excellent. Owners are very friendly and helpful. Our boat trip lasted from 10.30am until about 5.30pm when we returned to anchor in the middle of the canal opposite the farm house. We stopped for lunch for about an hour and also took a walk to a beach where fisherman were selling their catch, which was colourful and interesting. As you travel under man power you don't go very far or very fast.

We arrived and left by car, as we arranged this through the ever helpful Mr Stanley Wilson in Fort Cochin, and travelled on to Munnar afterwards.

We stayed one night on a boat and a second night on land. The boats (they have two) are big and surprisingly comfortable. At about 11:30 am we were punted away from the farmhouse for about a mile for lunch and then back again where we were moored about 30 yards from where we had started for the rest of the afternoon and the night. This was so that two members of the crew could go home for the night; the other member stayed on board. There was little to see on the trip, the views never improving on what was available at the start. The food was outstanding - lots of delicious dishes prepared in a tiny galley with the simplest equipment.

The rooms on land are spacious and comfortable. All together great value and a great place to relax

We got off at a nearby railway station (Thuravoor) and took a 10 minute auto rickshaw ride through a village (with considerable litter present) to the river's edge. There were several chalets on the river's edge with nice, roofed verandas. The property itself was very clean. Accommodation was basic, comfortable and in the case of the bathroom, open roofed (we tidied up the leaves and insects that came in from time to time). There was a separate dining area on the side of the river where very good, fresh Keralite food was served.

We enjoyed a 2-3 hour boat ride along our river, through a passage way, to a small lake where fishing nets, including Chinese style nets, seemed to be everywhere. As we were poled along, we saw many different types of birds. There did not appear to be any motorized boats around.

What stood out for us here was the friendliness and helpfulness of our hosts (who even got my computer going again!), a chance to relax on our front porch as well as the peacefulness of the location.
