“The most lovely host”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2013

Small stuff first that adds up:
1. Immaculate. This is so noticeable anywhere, but especially in India. You could eat off the bathroom floors. The house is huge, airy, peaceful.
2. Quiet. Slept like a rock.
3. free wi-fi - pretty fast, too.
4. Awesome food, and tons of it. Multi-course breakfast, fresh, hot, yummy. Ask for something, and you'll get it.
5. Beautiful yard, hammock, songbirds: greatest place to read.
The big thing:
The owner Matthew, and the guy who works for him (sorry, forgot his name), and Matthew's family: amazing. They COULD NOT do enough for us. I would honestly think to myself: hmmmm, I should probably get a rickshaw to get to the station, and a rickshaw would appear in his yard. Or we had 6 hours to kill before our train. Matthew gives us a bedroom, a/c, lunch, etc etc for the day: no charge. What? Really? My son mumbles something about wanting bananas. Matthew: on his scooter, back in 5 with bananas. My computer breaks: he personally ensures it's fixed before we leave. The houseboat owner was a little bit of a scum -not a big deal to me-but Matthew totally took it to heart, apologized, all of this.
He's the most generous, natural host, and you feel completely at home. There's a reason for all of the good reviews. :) Most def will come back.

Room Tip: I would get a/c. The upstairs rooms are probably preferable.

Very pleasant owners they are polite and helpful. Good breakfast really enjoyed the fresh pineapple juice every morning. Good clean and neat rooms. Suitable for older senior citizens also. Organised our transfer to Munnar. Would stay here again.

This home stay is not on any usual hotel booking sight which is a big shame for several reasons.
They proudly display a trip adviser travellers choice 2012 plaque in reception which is defiantly deserved.
I would also award this accomodation a award for the most comfortable mattress & pillows we have found up to now after spending 60 days in India so far.
The most friendly & helpfull management & staff who have good English.
Good size & well equiped bedrooms that tick all the right boxes.
Good european breakfast and free wi - fi in all bedrooms.
The home stay is only 5 minutes away from the bus station.
5 Minutes away from were all the back water cruises go from.
There are several good restaurants close by.
Beat this, I said to the boss (Mattew Vazhappally) that our t.v. did not work, by that evening he had been out & installed a new top name flat screen t.v.
The place gets my vote of confidence.
We paid Rs 1500 = £17.00 per night for 2 of us.

Cons.
There is a Local Mosque that bellows out there prayers 4 times a day, but they only last one minute.
There is near by shrine that sounds its bells at 7am that may wake you up
If people come in late at night & sit round the dinning table they will disurb you as all the floors are marble & there sound will carry, not a major prob but.

Room Tip: book early to avoid disappointment as they only have 5 bedrooms. we were on the first floor & h...

We stayed for three nights at The Venice Castle in Dec/Jan 2013 and would recommend this homestay for anyone coming to Alappuzha. Matthew (the owner) was very helpful in negotiating and arranging a boat trip for us at a much cheaper rate than we could obtain. Eldhose too was so helpful in giving information about train times and buses to Munnar. The breakfasts at the large, communal breakfast table were delicious (there was traditional Kerelan food as well as omelettes and toast). It was a great place to meet and chat with the other guests. We highly recommend the Venice Castle.

Stayed for two nights before Christmas and ejoyed every bit of it. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and clean. The hosting family and their supporting staff are very friendly and helpful. The location is ideal be it for fetching a taxi or for walking to various points in the inner city. No traffic noise, at night one of the rooms seems to be a bit exposed to light generator noise. Some additional insulation would be good there. Sometimes, the front door of the house is being kept open too long so that there are sometimes a few mosquitos too many in the living and dining room.

We enjoyed our two nights in this homestay. It is well located but in a quiet back street with greenery around and a templ nextdoor. The family is very friendly and helpful in arranging all a tourist might need in Aleppey. Their village tour on a canoe was a bit too long and a bit too slow but still worth it. The price for the clean rooms and nice environment is definitely very good.

We'd been recommended Venice Castle, on arrival it looked so much nicer than everything else we'd seen so we were expecting a high price, we were really surprised by the great value rates. We were really well looked after, Matthew and his family are so very welcoming and helpful. We couldn't ask for anything more and we've had a great stay.
