“Top homestay experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2013 via mobile

I can't imagine you could get a better experience of the backwaters than with Pamba Heritage! The service, cooking, organisation of daily activities was exceptional and a true taste of life on the backwaters. The cooking is not just authentic but very tasty! The location is brilliant, with the house backing straight onto the river ready to take you away on boating adventures! We looked around at other homestays in the area and having seen some of them on our expeditions, we are sure we definately made the right choice.

I was travelling with my girlfriend down the Keralan coast and we found that the Pamba Heritage homestay was a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the tranquillity of the Keralan back waters. It is a short taxi from Allepey and is accessed, rather charmingly, by canoe from the local pier.

Once there you can enjoy the traditional style homestay rooms, authentically decorated and with a fun outdoor bathroom. We didn't do many activities having already stayed on a house boat, but Rajeev was incredibly helpful in arranging both our next transfer and a subsequent train ride for our trip.

Rajeev and his family are charming and most gracious and kind hosts, and Rajeev's Mother in Law is some cook, we came away having tasted almost all the Keralan dishes there are! The rate includes all meals and is therefore very reasonable. This is an ideal place to relax, enjoy the gardens and the river traffic and take some down time in your trip. If its an abundance of activities and excitement you are after Rajeev would be most willing to help you find whatever it is you are looking for.

The Pamba Heritage is a great place to relax in a hammock and watch all the boats go by in the backwaters. Better than the houseboat option for those who want to see more of village life and stay with a friendly and accomodating local family. Rajeev and his family are relaxed, welcoming and always ready to help. The food was outstanding, the best of any restaurant we tried in the southern state. Try the local ferry, canoe ride, and a walk-cycle to surrounding areas to get a taste of the backwater lifestyle!

Lovely authentic place where you can get rest and just enjoy the backwaters! What makes the difference are the tasty kerala home made food! A must EAT! Rajiv and his family are absolutely charming and thanks to them you feel like at home in Kerala. I spent 2 nights here and did enjoy my time here with the local population and happy to get rest by looking at the boats on the river. If you look for authenticity and peace I highly recommand the Pamba!
The bathroom is also a good surprise!

A nice place to relax for a few days in the middle of the hussle and bustle of the rest of India, and a nice alternative for those who want to visit the backwaters but not necessarily on a houseboat. Rajiv's family cooked us delicious spicy meals and we spent many hours relaxing in the hammocks that overlook the activity on the backwaters. I recommend the tour of the backwaters on the small boat that Rajiv organized for us.

Arriving by auto rickshaw from Alleppey and then a small boat from Nedamudi jetty, we found ourselves in this lovely place. We were close to nature here surrounded by tropical fruit trees and we slept in the most beautifully authentic extremely comfortable room and washed in an enchanting open-to-the-sky bathroom.(we didin't want anything else) We walked through paddy fields and villages in the forest and then sat and watched the rice barges go by- glad that we were here rather than on the barges. Rajiv and his family are hugely welcoming but not invasive. The food is utterly delicious. We'll come again and tell others to do the same.

The only negative I have to say about my stay at the Pamba Heritage Villa is that it was only one night and I could have stayed for weeks. We arrived and were welcomed by the owner, Rajeev and his family who run the homestay.
The first meal was served in the traditional style on a banana leaf and was so tasty and plentiful, I then spent the afternoon chilling out reading in one of the hammocks by the waters edge. It was truly a fantastic experience. If you want a place to experience a more laid back lifestyle with fabulous food, welcoming hosts who cannot do enough for you and space to relax then this is the right place for you.
Having bikes available for customer use was a huge plus in my eyes as I cycled as the sun rose over the paddy fields waving good morning to the locals, unforgettable, one of the outstanding memories from my trip.
