3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2013 via mobile

This hotel is located just outside the old city walls, over which I had a fine view from my 22nd floor room. All essential equipment worked - hot water in the combined bath/shower, lights, comfortable bed with ckean sheets, door lock. Several minor items were not in working order - TV remote, room safe, water slow to drain. CNN was available but with a TV system that needed some retuning. The lifts were uncoordinated causing long waits at times. The breakfast buffet had a large choice including freshly cooked eggs (but the chef was 15 minutes late). The toaster sometimes worked. I found some front desk and restaurant staff surly and unhelpful. With a systematic maintenance programme and staff training this hotel could become good. This time it was just OK for a two night stay in safety and with comfortsble sleep.

The hotel is located close to the fascinating City Wall, although one risks life and limb crossing the road to get there! Our room was satisfactory despite unenthusiastic air-conditioning. There were two ‘single’ beds but each was quite adequate for a couple to get a decent night’s sleep together. The lobby is beautifully decorated. The breakfast room is large with a good selection of Chinese and Western foods including coffee and a toaster. No problems finding a place. There’s a nightclub on Level 5 which adds to the interest if you’re that way inclined. The hotel lifts are rather slow, which is a disadvantage when you’re located on Level 21.

Room Tip: Perhaps go for a higher room to be clear of the nightclub.

This hotel was the second on our Travelsphere tour of China. It was very comfortable and it had the added advantage of a supermarket a few metres away. We only had one night there but would have been happy to have stayed there longer.

We stayed here for only one night as part of a tour of China.

The hotel is located just outside the city walls, we were quite a few floors up at the front of the hotel, so had wonderful views of the walls and old parts of the city which were lit at night and looked great. There is a supermarket around the corner and taxis are readily avaliable from the road outside.

The room was large and well appointed, with tea and coffee making facilities, tv, mini bar a good sized bathroom with shower and bath. The room was clean apart from some large hairs found on the room carpet and in the bath so cleanliness could be better.

The breakfast was buffet style and fine, we got there when it opened as we had an early start, plenty of food and places to sit.

Ate in the resturant, good food and service, can't comment on the cost as we were not paying, the meal was included in the tour.

Yes would stay here again, shame about the hairs though. We had a proper Chinese foot massage whilst in Xian, I can recommend you do this as it was great, especially as we had spent most of the holiday on our feet, I was floating on air the following day!

I appreciate that Xian is an old city but this hotel is in need of a face lift. The rooms were adequate but very dated and the beds were a little hard but this is the way it is in China. Breakfast was a free for all - clearly the breakfast room was not big enough for all of us we had to clean tables and remove crockery ourselves to ensure a seat. There was not enough cutlery or bowls for cereal, it was clearly a very busy morning.

The 25 floor 538 room four star King Dynasty Hotel has an excellent location just outside the western city wall which means that the sights of the predominantly Moslem Old Town are all within walking distance. The large lobby is home to a religious shrine (no photos allowed) and a large breakfast area that is open between 6.30am and 10.00am and where a breakfast chef can cook eggs just the way you like them. The guest rooms are a decent size but the lighting is poor, making it difficult to read in bed and the water pressure in the shower is low. However a kettle and tea and sachets of milk Nescafe are provided. There is a massage room on the 5th floor, and if you are prepared to wear a bathing cap, you are free to use the swimming pool downstairs on B2 floor.

Walk over the busy road and through the city gate and you are on Lianhu Lu. From here, turn right before Lianhu Park and walk south through the market towards the Great Mosque, and the Drum & Bell Towers. Bei Dajie and Xixin Jie come to life during the Night Market. Dong Dajie is the mainstream shopping street, with Subway and Pizzahut both welcome alternatives from Chinese food. However for the most memorable impression of Xian climb the southern gate for 40 yuan (US$ 6.00) and hire a bicycle (20 yuan or US$ 3 for 100 minutes) and cycle around the entire 14 km length of the city wall, the only complete one left in modern China.
