My boyfriend and I stayed for three nights at this home-stay on our two week holiday in Cambodia. We read positive reviews on tripadvisor and thought we would give this place a try. The accommodation and food offered at Mary's Pie and Ice Cream Palace more than exceeded our expectations. My boyfriend and I cannot stop talking about how wonderful this place was, and how it was a major highlight of our trip not only to Kampot, but also Cambodia in general.
First, the home stay itself was of amazing value. For six dollars a night we stayed in a nice room with a double size bed, separate bathroom (which was private and no one else used) and a little balcony right outside the room. But what made this stay so lovely was the ambiance. The owner Mary, her brother Che, and Mary's partner Lez, were such warm, welcoming people and made us feel right at home.
As for the food. Mary offers very reasonably priced AND delicious breakfasts/brunch/lunch. Her omelettes are incredibly tasty and reminded me of something I could find at first rate breakfast place back home in California. My boyfriend really enjoyed the breakfast sandwich, also very reasonably priced, which came with bacon, egg, and homemade bread. Mary was also incredibly accommodating in terms of making modifications to food orders. I prefer lots of veggies with my breakfast and she happily substituted the bread which comes with the omelette for the tomatoes which I requested.
As for the treats! My favorite was the cheesecake! I am very picky when it comes to cheesecake. This cheesecake reminded me of something I could find in a french restaurant! It was perfect! Absolutely delish! My boyfriend loved the banana cream pie. But we tried many of Mary's offerings, including the lemon meringue pie, and all were incredibly tasty.
There are many breakfast/brunch places in Kampot, but this place gives you the feeling that you are being cared for and where you are provided a home cooked meal (or dessert) by an actual local from Kampot. There are many tasty places where you can have breakfast in Kampot, but to get the authentic feeling of Kampot and a really delicious meal at a reasonable price isn't as common. From my experience, a lot of eateries on the riverside are quite generic and owned by expats. I recommend Mary's Pie and Ice Cream Palace to anyone who wants to experience the unique and authentic side of Kampot. We will definitely be back!
