“A perfect way to start an African safari”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2011

Although we weren't originally slated to be here, I'm glad we ended up this far into the park. Being near a "water feature" on a safari is great as so many interesting things are happening. Oliver's is near the large swamp and is very accessible by flight from Arusha if you don't want to do the drive in and out of the park. Ken and Michelle were great; they even had electrical tape to mend my son's glasses broken on day 3 of the vacation. Although there are no outlets in the tents, you could give your "electronics" to either of them and they would charge them for you up at the office and give them to you a few hours later. The family style dining is nice, folks are typically there for 2-3 days and everyone is excited. The campfire & drinks before dinner is really nice too. The "tents" are terrific even if the toilet is not fully enclosed from the room (there is a short half wall for some privacy. And the "outside bucket shower" is really just a slight joke. Although it does look like a bucket, it's actually great water pressure as hot as you want it, and open to the sky. We loved it.

A superb place to stay. Everything was there to make our safari a success. Great food & service, Ken & Michelle - great hosts, dinner with your fellow travellers, good accommodation, sharing experiences around the campfire and most of all the Tarangire Park and its animals.

Our favourite parts were early mornings and late afternoon game drives and the atmosphere at dinner

We started our safari holiday here & it was amazing. Ken & Michelle are perfect hosts it is SO gorgeous. Great tents, loved the outdoor showers with hot water. Food was excellent and we saw loads in the park. Only one FYI if you leave kids in a tent make sure they can contact you as tents are quite far apart.

My son and I spent 2 nights at Oliver’s camp while visiting Tarangire National Park.
The entrance we used, not sure which one, had a rest stop/ picnic area where we ate our packaged lunch. After that, it was safari time.
We arrived at camp in the late afternoon, and were greeted with a nice wet, warm towel to wipe off road dust.
Oliver’s is a permanent tented camp. It was one of those "must stay at" properties recommended by our travel agent (Journey to Africa). The tents were roomy, had hot running water, and solar batteries for electricity. There was a deck area in front of the tent with chairs. Overall, the tent was very clean, comfortable, and the bed was nice and firm. The camp seems to be well off the beaten path. We did not see nearly the number of vehicles touring the next day as we saw the first day (at least until we got closer to the exit).
As with Olakira Camp (owned by the same company), the service was very personal and attentive.
Before dinner, the guests sit around a campfire enjoying the drink of your choice. Dinner is served in the dining tent family style. The food was very good and plentiful, as were the wines.
We did the walking safari, which I highly recommend. We were escorted by an armed park ranger and guide. Oliver’s is the only camp in Tarangire NP authorized to do one. We really enjoyed it and saw the park from a different perspective. About ½ mile from camp, a young male lion popped his head up in the brush about 50’ in front of us. I guess he did not like what he saw, because he took off before I even got my camera up.
Tarangire NP is a gem. This park has tremendous diversity of wildlife in an area 1/5 the size of the Serengeti. We saw lion, cheetah, leopard, elephants, and all the usual safari suspects. The second night while dining, a young hyena ran across the camp not 30’ from us. You never know what you will see.
I have no idea what our room cost or whether it was a good value or not since we were on a private, custom safari. All I can say, the entire trip was awesome and Oliver’s Camp and Tarangire NP helped make it such.
When visiting Tarangire NP and staying at Oliver’s camp, consider spending a third night. It is worth it.

This is an absolute gem and staying here "made" our safari! Our one regret is that we only stayed two nights and would have booked an extra night had we known how good it is - then we could have taken part in the walking safari which sadly we didn't have time for. It is the staff who make this place so great. They manage to create a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, whilst at the same time running an efficient and luxury service. The location is wonderful and accommodation very comfortable. You are in a camp, however, and may be woken by animals around your tent, so I wouldn't recommend this to anyone who is nervous!! I would love to return here some day - it was the highlight of our trip.

We spent three nights at Oliver's Camp, one night, we went to fly-camping. The place is a must during a safari in Tanzania!! The people are very, very nice, food is great and we enjoyed every minute there. If you are lucky enough to go there, don't miss fly-camping, a fantastic experience and no worries, you are absolutely fine spending your night underneath the stars in a tent!

We have been dreaming of a safari adventure for some years now..finually we were able to do it and am I glad we decided to stay at Olivers ( which is a group of camps run by Asilia)
There is nothing like the feeling of luxury camping ...camping is a loose word really as everything is impeccable considering you are in the middle of a National park.

Highlights of Olivers:
The setting and location, you feel like you are on a big journey just to get to the camp.
The tents were amazing, very clean and so homely..
The food was ALWAYS beautiful.
Sundowner by the fire..this proved to be a great time to swap stories and adventure of the day with other guests.
The staff were always friendly and accomodating.
We had a mishap with us arriving into the airport but our bags didnt ( later I found out this is a common occurance... ) the staff were in contact with the airport all the time ,unfortunately we didnt get our bags until 3 days later but Olivers made sure it was intersected on our way to our next destination.

Highlights of Tarangire
Spending an hour totally alone with 3 juvenille Lions at dusk.
Seeing 3 Leopards ,! 1 was literally 1 KM from the entrance of the Gates into the NP.
Lots of Elephants, especially viewing them from the Salale swamp.
Not as crowded as other NP we went to.

Dont hesitate to stay here it truely is magical

Room Tip: All tents are the same and have the same view
