“Pleasant surprise for a quick stop”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2012

We drove by Greensboro on our way home last week. We needed a break so I looked for a casual place for quick lunch on TripAdvisor. Based on first couple reviews, I picked the Smith Street Diner because it was on the way. Didn't realize until we walked in that they were about to close. The diner was still crowded though. Service was prompt and friendly. Got good recommendations and food came right away. I've read that biscuits here are large and tasty. Boy, that's an understatement. Food was great all around. Even coffee was very good which kept us awake on rest of the drive home, after such a large meal. Definitely didn't expect to run into such gem on unplanned stop but glad we did. Will now make Smith Street Diner a regular stop on this route.

“You have got to try the biscuits”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2012

We ate breakfast at Smith Street Diner. Just like pretty much everyone else in Greensboro. The food is GREAT. The biscuits are huge and very tasty. This is the classic diner, crowded, noisy, but lots of coffee and great food. The trick is get there early. A line starts up around 8am. It is worth the drive into town and the crowd.

“A real sleeper for a local diner”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2012 via mobile

We live in Greensboro but rarely venture downtown. SSD and the ball park are the exceptions. When we are on vacation we try to eat at places the locals like. Chains are ok but there are no surprises and no new experiences. Smith St Diner is indeed a gem. Not fancy just good home cooking and plenty of it. Wait staff are friendly and efficient. We've only had b'fast
meals but will eventually try lunch and dinner. Best not to get there at peak hours to avoid waiting with other hungry folks. Prices are NOT unreasonable. As they advertise "Open 8 days a week. Enjoy!

“OMG the Biscuits!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2012

You have to check out the biscuits in this place! They are huge. I am not even sure how you cook a biscuit that big. lol But seriously breakfast is awesome in this place. I love the "Mexican Eggs" dish.

“Great little place in downtown without a high price.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2012

We actually found this place using my sister's I phone and we weren't sure it was our kind of place from the outside, but we parked and went in anyway. It was fantastic. All the food we got was fresh and delicious and our server was friendly and attentive. It was also very clean and bright inside. We were there on a Saturday at lunch time and they were busy but there was still tables available. If you're in Greensboro and need a Diner this is the place to go.
