“Jean makes this place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2013

I was mightily impressed with Jean's quick responses to emails, and that she was happy to re-confirm our room for New Year's Eve (I do NOT want to get caught short on that night).
We booked a room with a private bath, just outside our door. Small, but clean. The room was very large, but seemed sparse. Some small, simple changes, like curtains and shampoo & conditioner would make the room perfect. I'm not sure why, but we got lots of painful static electricity from the linens on the bed. We did take off the blanket and that stopped most of them - if this happens to you, try that. As it was, the room was fine, immaculate. And Jean was such a great hostess that one can easily forget these small niggles.
Breakfast was a surprise. I thought 'continental' would be serve yourself, but Jean was there offering bagels, organic cereals, coffee etc. It was 'continental', but with something more. She helped boost our breakfast table conversation, although we were all there for the same concert the night before, so we had an immediate connection anyway! I left there with a hug from Jean and the feeling that we were special. I'm sure she does this for everyone, so she must be pretty special herself.

Thank you for you kind words, favorable review and well- thought out tips for improvement.

Green is the priority for The Dailey Renewal Retreat. Toiletries of the variety you recommend are available on request. Reversing Global Warming is what I'd like America to be a leader in.

Thank you for expressing your taste; Guests as lovely as you are a treat , the Octagonal room
is what I recommend.

The Lindley Park room is one of two Guest rooms with an Octagonal window feature, a 1" blind was suggested by my interior decorator. I'd describe this room as spacious, comfortable, functional with desk, TV, amoire, several chairs, heart of pine hardwood floor Queen size bed with duvet, original modern art, area rug.

With warm regard,
Jean Dailey

“Oustanding”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

Tried to book very late in order to attend a concert at the Coliseum
on New Year's Eve. Jean responded immediately that they were full.
Early the next day she contacted me to inform me a room had come open.
Her wonderful house is in a good neighborhood very conveniently
located to great restaurants and the Coliseum. The B&B is an
absolutely outstanding value. It is not the Four Seasons....it's a B&B
with an owner/host that truly likes people and will do anything to
ensure your stay is wonderful. Jean is a rare operator who actually
wants you to be there. The room, and the entire house, is homey and
comfortable. It's a great old house with creaky floors and classic
mouldings and details. The bed was cozy. Breakfast was good and Jean
takes a lot of pride (rightly so) in her coffee. We experienced a
wonderful breakfast with a room full of guests having friendly
conversations. We had a great experience and hope to make The Retreat
our go-to place when we attend future Greensboro events. We have
stayed in many, many B&Bs around the world and in our humble opinion
if you have a problem with Jean or her home, you're probably not going to satisfied anywhere. On a side note, the intersection of Elam and Walker Avenue is happening - great locals' restaurants and pub. We had an outstanding experience at Fishbones. Walk there.

Room Tip: If ensuite is important to you, ask for it while booking.

“peace and sustenance”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012

This B&B has been a wonderful refuge for me on overnights as a commuting grad student. I sleep better there than at home, and have enjoyed tremendous warmth and positive energy from the beautiful house and the attentive host. It's close to campus and lots of community events. Highly recommend it.

“Wonderful Location with Average Amenities”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

The good: the location is excellent - walkable to good restaurants and the Greensboro Coliseum. Reservations were easy and Ms. Dailey was prompt to return emails and provide information. She also went out of her way to provide a fax machine.
The average: the bedroom was nothing special and could have benefited greatly from a warm rug on the cold wooden floor and an extra quilt on the bed. Breakfast was a disappointment and consisted of bagels and packaged cereal - no protein or hot meal. The bathroom was tiny and shared between two rooms.
Overall, a perfectly fine place to stay a night or two but certainly nothing out of the ordinary.

Bed and Breakfasts are very popular, hotels are now built as Inns for the purpose of capturing this market. Our Bed and Breakfast is of the orginal model: it is part of the history of Greensboro, built in 1914 by Albert Eugene Fordham a Greensboro patriarch. The hardwood floors are heart of pine, now the most expensive wood for flooring because trees no longer grow to the size "their heart" can be used as flooring. We have area rugs on the hardwood floors. There are several in the room this Guest stayed in. All our rooms have a spare blanket in the dresser. The bathroom this Guest referred to is directly across the hall from the room she stayed in. It was installed in 2011 in a location of the house that doesn't mar the beauty of the archetecture but is convenient for Guest use. At breakfast, this Guest participated in a discussion with another Guest who's an expert on Water conservation, he said: "if everyone were vegetarian, we wouldn't be facing a shortage of water for our food supply; raising meat requires so much water. I taught Organic cooking in the kitchen of The Dailey Renewal Retreat from 2002- 2009; I embrace this philosophy. In 2013 we will introduce our classic French chocolate torte, a complete protein breakfast dessert with the "right" sugar and the "right" fat. Vive la joie de vivre

“Wonderful location and nice B&B.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2012

I stayed at this B&B and enjoyed my time here tremendously. Nice rooms and great location in Greensboro.
I was in town on business and chose to stay here after my stay in a hotel for a few extra days in the area. This is a beautiful, quiet house. I was able to rest much more comfortably than at the hotel. Sometimes those can be so noisy, but this B&B was very quiet.
It is close to everything.
Very quiet!
