“A gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2013 via mobile

This B & B was used by our family while attending a wedding in Yzerfontein, and thought it was a real gem. A beautiful, comfortable room overlooking the sea with large private balcony on a very quiet residential road. Ria went the extra mile to make the guest welcome, and was kind enough to offer hospitality to other family members. She is full of information about the area and is a naturally friendly and helpful person. The guest house is located in a very quiet part of this beautiful seaside town, and there is a stunning rock walk all the way in to the centre, full of wildlife and stunning views. This delightful guest house is well deserving of a sincerely genuine recommendation.

The town is marvelous and the view and feel of the ocean on our doorstep - literally!
But it felt like we had a host from hell. Leaving cape Town in peak traffic, arrived just after 6pm and were questioned about it. We were shown the room, but instead of handing over the key and leaving us to unwind from a hectic week. In a heavy dominating tone every cupboard was opened, everything mentioned and into the bathroom to point out the shower, fidgeting with the television remote. It was not our first "sleepover"!
The morning breakfast was lovely but again the feeling that we had to have a meal at the same time as the other guests and sit at a same table was too intimate with strangers.
We were out most of the Saturday and quickly stopped at the room to fetch something, and our personal belongings were moved from where it was neatly left. Clearly a host needs to confirm whether a room needs to be cleaned.
Our second and last night we had to make arrangements to either have breakfast before 6am or at 10am as we had to attend to something. This was met with dismay, but trying to stay calm only could take those times as options. We were served our lovely breakfast at 10, which seems very accommodating, but again with the other guest.
Our stay in Yzerfontein could however not be tarnished by a bad choice of B&B as the little town is a gem and the ocean refreshing.

Firstly I want to thank you for the good feedback about our establishment. I'm glad the view, the location and good breakfasts were to your satisfaction.

Regarding the “tour” of the room: not everyone is so fortunate to be seasoned tourists. For many of the guests it is their first visit to a guesthouse and years of experience have learned that it is best for guests to know where everything is and how it works – most of them actually appreciate it.

Because we are such a small establishment, it is our practice to serve breakfast for the 4 guests at the same time. They can choose from 7h00 to 9h00 but sometimes we go the extra mile to accommodate people at 10h00. I can only add that in six years, I saw some of the greatest friendships formed around the breakfast table - so much so that the people who met in such a way arranged to come for a weekend visit so they could strengthen the new ties.

In 99% of all hotels and guest houses that I have visited (and yes, I have traveled a lot in my life) the room was serviced - it is standard procedure in the guest-house industry. All the guests visiting our guesthouse through the years, gave us a 5* rating for service. Our guest book is available to share all the positive comments we have received from 99.99% of our guests.

For my actions as a "hostess from hell" I sincerely apologize. Perceptions tend to be deceiving.
