As soon as one enters the grounds one feels admiration
and respect for this Lodge. On the top of a hill you will see
the impressive main lodge with on both sides 4 cottages,
all on platforms and linked by a walkway.
All together an amazing wooden realisation
Quote Bradt Travel Guide:
"The outlook is, even by Uganda's high scenic standards, phenomenal."
The main lodge has a comfortable lounge area with open fire place and
decks on both side in order to enjoy the panoramic views at all times.
The same counts for the restaurant area and the galleries, with even more
spectacular views, can be booked for.
The service at this lodge is fine, drinks and food can be asked for on different decks/locations on their grounds. Excellent breakfast and roomservice.
Fine cuisine with home growned vegetables and an extra recommendation
is a visit to their kitchen gardens and a fruit tree orchard.
Their cottages are very spacious and surrounded by nature, an atmosphere
that makes relaxing easy. Your private balcony is ideal for a late breakfast or
an enjoyable sundowner. The tranquility and intimicy of this deck ensures an
encounter with birds, butterflies and monkeys.
Natural trendy interiors, fine linen, comfortable sitting area, handy writing desk and /wardrobe + en suite charming bathroom. All fine hardwood furniture is designed/made by their second company; Kyaninga Homes. 2 family cottages.
The location is ideal as for chimpanzee tracking. Kibale Forest is less then
one hour away and Queen Elisabeth Park, one of the most biodiverse reserves
in the world for safaris, only asks a comfortable 2 hours drive.
Fort Portal is a pleasant town but especially the grounds of the lodge and the surroundings are far more impressive:
grass tennis court, croquet, badminton, pétanque, guided nature walks,
swimmingpool (overlooks the lake...), picnic by the lake side.
golf, chimpsanzee tracking, visits botanical garden/tea plantage, Safaris
Honestly a very nice place to stay, especially since the owners apply the principles of People, Planet and Profit. But more about their community projects and indigenous tree planting schemes can be read on their website which is currently under construction but already accessible.
All the best to the full staff and good luck with this major project.
