“Elegance at its peak, a stunning setting and atmosphere.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2010

As soon as one enters the grounds one feels admiration
and respect for this Lodge. On the top of a hill you will see
the impressive main lodge with on both sides 4 cottages,
all on platforms and linked by a walkway.
All together an amazing wooden realisation
Quote Bradt Travel Guide:
"The outlook is, even by Uganda's high scenic standards, phenomenal."

The main lodge has a comfortable lounge area with open fire place and
decks on both side in order to enjoy the panoramic views at all times.
The same counts for the restaurant area and the galleries, with even more
spectacular views, can be booked for.

The service at this lodge is fine, drinks and food can be asked for on different decks/locations on their grounds. Excellent breakfast and roomservice.
Fine cuisine with home growned vegetables and an extra recommendation
is a visit to their kitchen gardens and a fruit tree orchard.

Their cottages are very spacious and surrounded by nature, an atmosphere
that makes relaxing easy. Your private balcony is ideal for a late breakfast or
an enjoyable sundowner. The tranquility and intimicy of this deck ensures an
encounter with birds, butterflies and monkeys.
Natural trendy interiors, fine linen, comfortable sitting area, handy writing desk and /wardrobe + en suite charming bathroom. All fine hardwood furniture is designed/made by their second company; Kyaninga Homes. 2 family cottages.

The location is ideal as for chimpanzee tracking. Kibale Forest is less then
one hour away and Queen Elisabeth Park, one of the most biodiverse reserves
in the world for safaris, only asks a comfortable 2 hours drive.
Fort Portal is a pleasant town but especially the grounds of the lodge and the surroundings are far more impressive:

Grounds:
grass tennis court, croquet, badminton, pétanque, guided nature walks,
swimmingpool (overlooks the lake...), picnic by the lake side.

Other adventures:
golf, chimpsanzee tracking, visits botanical garden/tea plantage, Safaris

Honestly a very nice place to stay, especially since the owners apply the principles of People, Planet and Profit. But more about their community projects and indigenous tree planting schemes can be read on their website which is currently under construction but already accessible.

All the best to the full staff and good luck with this major project.

We are a couple working in Sudan and were looking forward to some time-off relaxing in a quiet, clean, safe environment. We got all that and more.

We overnighted in Kampala from Juba and took a public bus to Fort Portal (5 hours).
A quick taxi ride to the lodge - the drive leading to Kyaninga was breathtaking. We could not believe the sight we were approaching and asked the driver to slow down.

We stayed for 5 nights, the first guests to stay "long term". Food - very good and high quality with flexibility. Some nights we requested specific meals which was no problem for the kitchen staff.

The lodge was designed and built by the young British and Ugandan owner(s), a nice couple, which makes it very interesting to talk to them. The lodge is basically a high end resort with a rustic log cabin, natural, and cozy feeling. All amenities exist - pool, internet, etc. The environment, local population and economy were thought of when it was built. It fits perfectly into the hillside without ruining the contour of the land. The location is absolutely amazing. The built wooden decks or the shaded hillside grassy decks - done in superb taste.

Everything seems to be thought of, the small touches. The furniture in each room/lodge is beautiful, enormous bed. Everything seems modest but is actually very high quality and practical, they managed to get that mix.

The hosts and staff are very nice and eager to please, giving you plenty of space but happy to give service as well. Housekeeping and general cleanliness were the best I have ever experienced in a hotel, ever!

The only glitch we had was a hot water problem- currently only heated by solar so due to some rainy days we didn't have all the time super hot water. But very soon will be heated by other means so I am sure this will be remedied, according to Steve the owner.

Highly recommended. Additionally they have a furniture business - anything you see you can purchase, as well as a log cabin home business - We are considering going back and moving.
