It’s difficult to not sound too OTT but I have to say that I experienced “golfing nirvana” at Vipingo. In fact I need to take a moment......! A course par excellence! The drive up from the main road created much anticipation as we hadn’t reached the club house after 10minutes of driving. Then suddenly glimpses of fairways started to appear and bubbling brooks and waterways that created a distinct feeling of being in a National Geographic golf documentary. The club house blends with the environment with brown soft features (excuse my lack of architectural descriptors) with roof top seating for the cool evenings and beautiful changing rooms complete with AC, TV and rain showers.
As you walk out onto the terrace the view is of the 9th & 18th holes, a view quite reminiscent of the Lost City Golf Course in Suncity, South Africa. Vipingo is one of Kenya’s newest golf courses and you get the distinct feeling that the course was designed and created with passion. There are undulating hills and carpet-like grass on the fairways. I almost removed my shoes to walk barefoot!
The par 5s are a challenge to contend with! Not to mention the holes with water near the greens. As courses go, this is a Kenyan gem and once the lavish villas that line the fairways are finished, this could be the course to host international tournaments. Have a look at their website to a good visual of the course and book a date to play there, a 2012 must do for any serious golfer.
