“Offbeat Meru”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2013

This camp is really tucked away, you feel you have the whole park to yourself.. The hosts Tanyth &
Sean are super, full of African stories FULL STOP. I arrived feeling very sore, fell off a camel and they were super nice, padded me in the car and Stanley was an awesome guide... It was very green, lush, normally dry.
If you want a really special African safari experience this is great place. plus a wonderful pool to chill out by.

Room Tip: On top of all the perfect service there is a rhino sanctuary close by, well worth the trip.

Unbelievable place! The camp is in a great place and Shaun and Tan looked after us amazingly well. We saw lots of game and were so pleasantly surprised with the lack of other vehicles, it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. Swimming pool at the camp was a really nice touch and made the holiday pretty perfect. Can't fault this place.

Thank you very much for your great review and I will pass your comments onto the team. Yes Meru National Park is an amazing place and the wildlife you see is 'yours' and not shared by the masses. It is one of Kenya's hidden gems and more people really should come to the park!
Hope to see you back again soon

Wow - where do I start. We have just returned from the most amazing week at Offbeat Meru Camp. The staff were brilliant and so lovely - the food was delicious (cannot believe they could produce it out there), the guides were friendly and very knowledgeable, the tents were gorgeous (traditional but very comfortable with huge beds and hot showers) and the setting is out of this world. The pool is a key feature, after a morning game drive we all chilled by the pool (with the monkeys in trees overhead). Sun-downers were another highlight - sipping a chilled glass of rose as the sky turns pink over the plains is a very special experience. The joy of Meru is you all but have it to yourselves - I have been to the Serengeti and the vans gather around the spotted wildlife in minutes - we had three young lions all to ourselves for half an hour. We saw Cheetahs, white rhino, lion and a huge numbers of birds - I want to go back!
Thank you all, a trip of a lifetime. Bee Haywood
I cannot recommend this camp enough.

Room Tip: There are only 6 tents and all have views down to the river.

Thank you very much for your great review of Offbeat Meru and I will pass your comments onto the team. It is amazing how much wildlife the park has and as you say all to yourselves. Also you mention the pool, which is a key feature in the camp and as Meru gets pretty warm in the afternoons it is a great place to relax and see what wildlife/ birdlife comes down to the river.
We hope to see you back again soon

Tanyth and Sean are the perfect hosts, instantly making you feel at home, hugely knowledgable on all aspects of wildlife and Kenya which makes a real difference. Great pool and facilities and amazing food and service. Saw 4 out of the 5 big game, and I am sure the last one was just around the corner!
I would definitely recommend the Offbeat Meru Camp.

Offbeat Meru Camp is the perfect place to stay whilst visiting Meru National Park in Kenya. The camp comprises six tents only, which makes it very exclusive. The service is perfect, and the food is absolutely delicious. Tanyth and Sean are perfect hosts and make you feel very welcome and at home. We stayed for 3 nights and wish we could have spent more time at Offbeat Meru. We will definitively be back !

Room Tip: Everything is perfect at Offbeat Meru, no tips are required to have a most enjoyable experience

We loved our stay at Offbeat Meru Camp. The camp managers, Sean & Tanyth, were top notch and have created a very easy going, relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

The facilities are great - hot showers are available whenever you request one and a pool is also there for guests to enjoy. We were given a lovely guide - he knew so much about the area and was a pleasure to spend time with. You really get the feeling that you are in the bush - we had giraffes and buffalo wandering through the camp while we were there - but we felt completely safe. We saw so many animals - hippos, zebras, giraffes, elephants and rhinos, to name a few.

We had the chance to visit the local school that the camp supports and would recommend other guests to also go if they have the time. Try and bring school supplies if you can (we didn't know and wish we did).

Meru National Park is a must see destination. It is not as well known as places like the Mara and Serengeti, which means you get a wonderful experience with hardly anyone else around - we would go for a full day (morning & night drives) and not see another car with the exception of a couple of rangers.

Our only disappoint was booking for only two days - we could have easily stayed for another night or two. 100% recommended.

Thank you very much for your great review of Offbeat Meru Camp.
It is great you had such a good time and thank you for mentioning both the local school that we support and the fact that you hardly see another game driving vehicle in Meru National Park. We hope to see you back again soon

ditto to all the other wonderful reviews. we spent 5 days at camp at the end of October....Sean and Tanyth are the perfect host/hostess, relaxed, fun to talk with, and always ready to make everything perfect for you.
the wild animals were, well, wild animals....really rather surreal. Stan, our guide, was very patient and had a great sense of humor.
The food and accomadations were 6 stars. excellent and varied menus, excellent scotch and wine. wonderful king size beds, hot showers.
the was an experience of a lifetime...we hope to go back with friends someday.
