“University of Maryland Trip”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2014

Just returned from a two night stay at this hotel. The staff were friendly and efficient. It was a short and easy drive to the University and close to the Metro to go explore DC. The hotel itself
appeared clean, however we encountered strange odors. The first odor was outside entering the hotel lobby. I asked the front desk if we were close to a landfill and they said no. It lasted for all the days we were there. The second odor was the room. It was clean and spacious however,
it smelt like mildew. We had two rooms on the 11th floor and they both had the same odor.
Probably wouldn't stay here again.

Dear Deb,

Thank you for taking the time to complete our Guest Satisfaction Survey and sharing your experience with the Greenbelt Marriott.

You indicated in your response that the smell you experienced in the hotel was unsatisfactory. As we are changing seasons and we are preparing for the spring our landscaping company had just laid down some enriched fertilizers to prepare the grounds for their spring planting. Unfortunately this came with a very strong odor that was evident throughout the hotel. Please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience you may have experienced and the fact we did not clear it up when you inquired about the possible sources of smell. We take great pride in ensuring our guest’s satisfaction. Unfortunately, we did not meet your—or our own—expectations.

You’re a valued customer; everything we do is aimed at providing you with an excellent hotel experience. We would like to regain your trust and hope to serve you again in the future. If I may be of assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,
BIRUK TADESE

Just returned from a nice stay at the Greenbelt Marriott. Our room on the 17th floor was spacious, very clean and comfortable. I picked this hotel for its proximity to the University of Maryland. Even with traffic, the ride was less then ten minutes. The hotel is located right off 495, and is easy to get to. If my son decides to attend UMD, we will definitely be returning to this hotel!

One feature of this hotel is that the rooms have a lot power outlets for all the electronic gadgets. They are centralized on panels on the walls. Nice touch.

The property is a typical Marriott. One thing that I found odd is that a picture is missing from the wall, but the management did not remove the mounting hardware from the wall (see pic).

The Lounge staff durning night shift is RUDE. She does NOT put out all foods that the hotel provides, supplies some items to only a few guests. Unbelieveble!

The front dest staff are nice. This property has a large fitness center, great breakfast buffet. Shuttle bus picks you up from a numble of locations, very nice.

I live in PA. When traveling into Washington DC, I really like staying at this place. It is close to the top of the beltway - traffic is not a hassle. Their shuttle will take you to the Metro Red line(1 mile away) - take that instead of driving to nearly anywhere in DC. Great staff at the lounge. Large fitness center, pool and hottub. Last, the Concierge Lounge staff is top notch!

I stay at this hotel twice a year for business and it feels like coming back home. The rooms and services are great. The breakfast is absolutely delicious. I want to thank Biruk Tadese for helping my colleagues and I during the snow storm. He provided us a conference room in a short notice with all the amenities we needed. He never hesitated to ask me how I was doing and if I needed anything. Thanks for all, I greatly appreciate it! See you later this year.

This is consistently a fantastic hotel experience with an outstanding staff. The pool and hot tub are fun and the fitness area has been nicely renovated since our last visit. The breakfast buffet with omelet and waffle bar is always great. We have been staying here for years upon visiting family in the area and are always delighted to be welcomed by so many familiar faces. Staff members seem to never leave, which says a lot for the management at the Greenbelt Marriott. Thanks for another excellent visit.

Room Tip: Ask for an upper level room facing D.C.
