“Great Place for UMD Visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2011

Anyone who is traveling to College Park for a visit to UMD can tell you that there are few choice hotels in the area. We usually stay at the Marriot on campus but many times it is booked so we decided to try the Marriot in Greebelt this October. What a nice surprise. This Marriot is way more in line with Marriot standards than the one on campus. The hotel is updated and has a wonderful lobby with a large restaurant and bar. The staff is helpful and friendly. Rooms are standard Marriot rooms and are clean and neat. There is a pool and a workout room but for trips like this we did not use it. The hotel is about 5 miles from UMD and is well worth the 7 minute drive. There are few places to eat near the hotel so if you dont want to eat in the hotel you will have to drive but restaurants are only 2 miles away or so. On the down side the consierge lounge is not open on weekends when most college visits take place but with the new lobby it is not really an issue. My new best place to stay when visiting UMD!!

Very clean lobby and updated. There is a Starbucks, restaurant, and bar right on site. Near University of Maryland and about half mile from metro.

This is a very nice property. Service is always very friendly and efficient. Rooms are standard Marriott - nicely decorated, clean, comfortable. Good bar and restaurant, nice breakfast buffet and I like that they have a Starbucks in the lobby. It's very convenient if you just want to just grab a muffin and coffee. Overall, no negatives to report. It's always my choice when traveling to Greenbelt on business.

We stayed at the Marriott after a wedding nearby in Maryland. The room was very nice and the hotel was very clean. The room rate was very good for the location. We utilized room service for breakfast and the food was great. Overall, the hotel is very nice and we would definitely stay here again.

I have stayed @ the Greenbelt Marriott each Sun-Thur for months now, and the staff is the best part! The hotel is beautiful, and some of the views are nice, but the staff is exceptional. If you're able, check out the Concierge Lounge on the 16th floor, and meet Dollye, Margarita, or (if you're lucky) Seo.

The hotel restaurant is high-quality, although the offerings are not very broad. Try the glazed roast chicken (get some extra sauce on the side!) or the salmon. Their crab cakes and cream of crab soup are very nice, as well. And once again, the restaurant staff is so friendly - if possible, look for the shortest Ethiopian waitress on the floor - she's the best!

The one drawback of this hotel is that no other restaurants are within walking distance. There is a small deli in the office park nearby, but it closes early. Mitigating this is the possibility of food delivery through Campus Dining (check out their website). I've tried Jamaican, South American, and Seafood delivered.

Room Tip: 16th floor - concierge level - elevators are slow, but it's worth the hassle to be close to the...

Quiet area, but nice hotel and rooms. Very comfortable bed, fresh decor and nice HD TV. Nice set-up for a business trip, all the pc etc connections, etc on the large desk area. I have been there twice and the service in the restaurant in the evening was understaffed and slow, but it was still better than driving somewhere after along tiring workday.

We arrived the hotel around noon. Although our booking has a free breakfast (it's offered until 1 pm), it is to be next morning's deal which is totally understandable. While we sit in the lobby waiting on our friends, Dianne came over asked us was there anything she could do for us. We told her that we need to find a good place for lunch with friends. She offered to do a research and come back to us. Then she brought us free coffee and bottle waters while waiting because I previously mentioned that I wanted coffee but the in-hotel Starbucks just closed. 5 minutes later, our friend came and told us they knew a place to eat. I went to front desk and asked the lady (she is super nice, too all the time with my previous questions) to tell Dianne that we had to leave. When we came back after lunch, we surprisingly found that they sent us a HUGE fruit & cheese plate, also with four bottle water (they must still remember we have two guests with us). On the card came with it, they apologized for not giving us the restaurant information sooner. What a great service! BTW, we were upgraded to the 14th floor room which has lounge access. The lounge room is great, too. It offers free drinks and snacks, the view outside window is great, too. I think it also has a computer in the lounge, also a TV.
