“Mulit Million Dollar Renovation, oh yeah we forgot the hot water”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2008

When visiting Gatlinburg with children, it is great to stay at hotels such as the Edgewater in order to be close to all the main attractions, shopping, restaraunts, etc. The price is pretty decent given the proximity to all of the above. Parking is included with the price, just remember to park close to the elevators. Other freebies are WIFI, pool, hot tubs, and breakfast. PLUS, the hotel just went through a major multi million dollar renovation. There is a ok restaraunt onsite. Some of the problems started with the fireplace pilot light going out, not a big deal since the desk will either call maintenance or give you matches. The sink handle falling off, again, not a real big deal, things happen to old hotels. The brown substance dripping off the ceiling of the bathroom started to get my wife and I concerned a bit since it stained whatever it touched. The real problem with the hotel is the lack of hot water. From my talk with the maintenance people, there is a new water heater in the building, but they are trying to get it to work right. Over three days, I never had a hot shower, and after being offered 10% off for our troubles, I will not be going there again. To think they are experimenting with water temperatures with their guest, then act like it is no big deal, is a joke. There are plenty of other hotels along River Street, so keep strolling by this option especially if hot water or cleanliness are an issue.

edgewaterhotel, General Manager at The Edgewater Hotel, responded to this review, January 3, 2009
We are most appreciative for the feedback left by these particular guests; however, we are regretful for their unfortunate feelings toward their recent stay at our property.

The General Manager did follow up with the authors of this review. Their assertions were addressed and it is the sincere intention of the hotel management that they not only accept the apologies extended and the invitation to return but also understand the hotel’s position on the need to upgrade equipment to better service our valued guests.

When a guest’s experience is interrupted through unforeseen circumstances whether mechanical or guest service related, it is imperative he or she report the incident immediately so corrective action may be taken as to avoid further inconvenience.

It is our practice to service our guests in a prompt, friendly and professional manner. We pride ourselves on setting our standards higher than ‘conventional hospitality philosophy.’ We hope others will treat themselves and plan a stay at the Edgewater Hotel, Gatlinburg to experience our property first hand!

The best thing that I can say about their staff is they are very friendly. That is where the good news ends......

Our first night we awoke to a loud sound as if a hot tub was running nearby. An hour later when I got up to go to the bathroom I found out that the hot tub that was running was OURS!. A pipe has burst while not in use! Two-three inches of steamy water soaked the entire room and bathroom. We heard later that it affected rooms beneath ours too yet noone came looking for the source until we called. We were moved to a new room with no restitution for wet clothes, loss of sleep.

Day two, NO HOT WATER, must have been because of the incident on our first night, right? Nope, past postings have alluded to this problem in the past.

Day three, NO HOT WATER again. I had read this in other reviews and thought it must be just a bad day but now I am thinking the bad days may occur often.

The parking garage is SO TIGHT that you WILL be missing paint on your car when you leave.

Elevators are extremely slow. Use the stairs!

DON'T GO DURING the weekend of the Christmas parade or two night will cost you in excess of $300, normally less than $180 for two nights. The cheerleading competitions are also held at this time so be prepared for LOTS of teenagers that you can hear down at the pool well after midnight.

Dining on site was so-so.

  • Liked — Close to main road but not in the noise and traffic
  • Disliked — No HOTWATER, Changing rooms in the middle of the night due to flooded unit, parking too tight

On behalf of the staff of the Edgewater, we would like to thank these visitors for staying with us. It is always flattering to receive such nice compliments on our friendliness as we are dedicated to the hospitality industry and recognize that our guests are the most important.

While the occurrence of the pipe breaking was an isolated and unforeseen occurrence, both our Engineering & Housekeeping Departments responded immediately and in an efficient, caring and professional manner.

Preventative maintenance is a strong objective of our in house engineering staff as they continue to keep our resort property functioning in a strong and healthy fashion . This particular scenario could not have been treated with preventative maintenance. It just happened as it could anywhere, including our own homes. We are pleased that we could move them to another comfortable room just down the hall. Incidentally, the wounded pipelines have since been repaired.

We remained in contact with the guests throughout their visit and we remain disappointed that this fluke occurrence had to occur. We are continuing “post stay” correspondence with these guests and hope they will honor us with accepting our invitation to return so we may serve them to their greater satisfaction. We regret (and hope to mend) any continued unenthusiastic impressions that these guests may carry.

We are always in the process of upgrading our products and services and will continue to commit all our resources to providing excellent “southern” hospitality and exceedingly responsive customer service to our many guests.

This great little hotel has recently had a multi-million dollar renovation. We stayed for 4 nights and enjoyed every minute of it. It's not on the main strip so it was very quiet at night. The parking garage is a tight squeeze but so is everything else there. The staff was so nice and it was an easy walk to all the area attractions.

  • Liked — quiet but still close to everything
  • Disliked — parking

This is our favorite place to stay in gatlinburg. It is central to everything! The indoor outdoor pool is great. Both mountainside and creekside rooms are great. The staff is nice and the rooms are very clean.

Walked in with no reservation and got a room for our honeymoon with a hot tub right by our bed, fireplace, and mountain view. It was perfect. We walked to nearby restaurants and great shopping. The only complaint was the parking. We drove an extended cab truck and it was a tight squeeze but who cares right. Everything else was top notch and I am picky!

The Edgewater is a pretty standard property - not great - not bad. I was surprised to hear that there had just been a million dollar remodel, apparently this did not include the carpeting or the bathroom fixtures - also had to move the coffee pot into the bathroom to plug it in which was a bit inconvenient - but the room was clean, the bed was comfy and the location was great. I don't know if I would stay there again, but all in all not a bad place.

stay here everytime, love that its right in main area of Gatlinburg, walking distance to everything. Pool area is on the small side but not too small, nice, heated and indoor/outdoor with waterfall and mountain stone decor. Two hot tubs are available. Rooms are OK, nothing fancy and beds are reasonably comfortable, ask for riverside view otherwise you will have a view of nothing but the side of the mountain up close like a wall. Never had any problems with our stay.
