We wanted to stay somewhere convenient to downtown and this hotel was definitely that. So that was a pro. However, the room we stayed in was old, outdated, and previously a smoking room. I've read some reviews that said it was updated...they must have only updated some floors/rooms, but not others if that is the case. We stayed on the 8th floor on the formerly smoking wing facing the dumpsters. Lovely. Although the view wasn't all that, it was the least of my complaints. Here are the cons: -As mentioned, the room used to be a smoking room. True, it is NOW a non-smoking hotel. However, the scent of stale cigarette was WAY too strong. If I pay for a non-smoking room, I want a room that smells NOTHING like cigarette smoke. That being said, if you make a reservation, be sure to request a room that has never been a smoking room. -This is common in many old hotels, but a huge concern...the balcony railings are far more than 4" apart. My less-than-2 year old easily put her head between the rails. And her head is in the 88% percentile, so she has a big head. She could have easily put her whole body through had we not been keeping a VERY close eye on her due to the safety hazard. -The carpet looks old, but clean. However, walking around barefoot turned our feet 'black,' so looks can be deceiving. -Not enough outlets. And only one outlet under the desk was really accessible. Maybe 10 years ago this number of outlets was fine, but with everyone having cell phones, devices, etc, that need charging, there was a severe lack of outlets. We had to unplug lamps and the outlets behind the bed were a pain to get to. And they are old outlets, so the plugs don't stay in very well. And the outlet in the bathroom, not surprisingly, is not a GFI outlet. -The elevator was SLOW which was kind of a pain since we were on the 8th floor, but the view was nice from the elevator. -The higher you get the longer it takes for the hot water to come. Once it does come it is scalding. So it's nice and hot, but careful. -Could use more counter space. We really needed to keep stuff off the floor so my daughter didn't get into it, but the desk was really the only place and it was small. there was a small amount of space on the dresser, but the tv took up most of the space. Wall mounts would be a good way to open up some space. Pros: -Waffles at breakfast were delicious! -Very friendly staff. Everyone I spoke to was very nice and helpful. -Loved the pool. Temperature was nice, wasn't crowded. Awesome. -Parking garage didn't bother me. I saw the security guy making rounds and felt relatively safe. I liked that it was shady so my car didn't get hot. -Location -Fridge and microwave were nice to have. All that being said, I would stay at this hotel again if I could be assured that my room had always been non-smoking. And I would bring a power strip.
Ask for a room that has never been smoked in and get the river view room. It costs a little more, b...
